Route 16 is a , two-lane, uncontrolled-access, secondary highway in eastern Prince Edward Island. Its eastern terminus is at Route 2 and Macphee Avenue in Souris and its western terminus is at Route 313 in Saint Peters Bay. The route is entirely in Kings County. Route description The route begins at its eastern terminus and heads northeast before curving westward in East Point. It continues west until Cable Head, where it curves south before ending at its western terminus. Naufrage, Prince Edward Island
Naufrage is a community in Kings County, Prince Edward Island, Canada, in the northeast section of the province in Lot 43. "Naufrage" is the French word for shipwreck. The name stems from the numerous shipwrecks that occurred in the area, starting with the arrival of European settlers in 1719. Once a booming area of Irish Moss collection, Naufrage is known today for lobster and tuna fishing, and tourism. Settlement Little is known about the early days of settlement in the Naufrage area. Prior to any French settlement there is evidence of Mi'Kmaq burial grounds near the Shipwreck Point Lighthouse. After French settlement due to shipwrecks, Scottish settlers arrived in 1771 and 1772. Apart from a cemetery on the west side of Naufrage harbour, little evidence remain of these earliest French residents. Souris, Prince Edward Island
Souris is a town in Kings County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is located near the northeastern tip of the province. History Souris was founded by Acadians in 1727 as a fishing settlement at the mouth of the Souris River. These early settlers experienced several plagues of field mice in the surrounding area during the 1720s-1760s which damaged crops. Souris is French for "mouse" and a mouse is the Town's Mascot. It is said that "a French vessel passing by the bay in the early 1700s was forced to cut through the waves of drowned mice and so gave the name to the area.
