Prince Adalbert Of Prussia (1811–1873)
Prince Heinrich Wilhelm Adalbert of Prussia (29 October 1811 – 6 June 1873) was a son of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and Landgravine Marie Anna of Hesse-Homburg. He was a naval theorist and admiral. He was instrumental during the Revolutions of 1848 in founding the first unified German fleet, the Reichsflotte. During the 1850s he helped to establish the Prussian Navy. Biography Adalbert was born in Berlin, the son of Prince William, the youngest brother of King Frederick William III. As a young man, Adalbert entered the Prussian army and served in the artillery. Several journeys led him between 1826 and 1842 to the Netherlands, Britain, Russia, Turkey, Greece and Brazil. He recognized during his many sea voyages the importance that sea power had for a modern commercial and industrial nation. Prince Adalbert Wilhelm Georg Ludwig of Bavaria (Munich, 19 July 1828 – Nymphenburg Palace, 21 September 1875) was the ninth child and fourth son of Ludwig I, King of Bavaria, Ludwig I of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Prince Adalbert Ferdinand Berengar Viktor of Prussia (14 July 1884 – 22 September 1948) was the third son of Wilhelm II, German Emperor, by his first wife, Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein. Early life Prince Adalbert was born on 14 July 1884 as the third son of the then Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and his first wife, Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein. He was born in the Marmorpalais of Potsdam in the Province of Brandenburg, where his parents resided until his father acceded to the throne as Emperor Wilhelm II in 1888. Prince Adalbert of Bavaria (german: Adalbert Alfons Maria Ascension Antonius Hubertus Joseph omnes sancti Prinz von Bayern) (3 June 1886 – 29 December 1970) was a member of the Bavarian Royal House of Wittelsbach, historian, author and a German Ambassador to Spain. Early life Adalbert was born at the Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, Bavaria. He was the second son of Prince Ludwig Ferdinand of Bavaria and his wife Infanta María de la Paz of Spain. As most of his peers, following the Abitur, Adalbert joined the Bavarian Army and remained an officer throughout the First World War. He served with the artillery as a battery commander and later as a General Staff Corps and a cavalry officer on both the Western and the Eastern Fronts. 1920s-1940s After Germany's defeat in 1918, Prince Adalbert left the military and began study history at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich; later publishing several works on Bavarian and royal history.
