Primm, Nevada
Primm (formerly known as State Line) is an unincorporated town in Clark County, Nevada, United States, primarily notable for its position straddling Interstate 15 at the Nevada–California border. It sits on Ivanpah Dry Lake, which extends to the north and south of town. Primm was initially known as State Line and started as a small motel and coffee shop built by Ernest Primm (1901-1981) in the 1950s. Over the years, Primm grew, with Gary Primm, Ernest's son, expanding the area by building casino hotels. In 1996, the town was officially renamed Primm in honor of its founder and to avoid confusion with Stateline in northern Nevada. The community's economy is based on its two casinos (the Primm Valley Resorts), which attract gamblers from Southern California wanting to stop before reaching Las Vegas to the north, or as a last chance to gamble before leaving Nevada. Kirtley is an unincorporated community in west central Fayette County, Texas, United States. It was once known as Primm. Location Kirtley is located on the highway TX-71 and the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railroad (MK&T). William Primm Dr. William Primm, for whom the town was originally named, was an early colonist from a family of wealthy aristocrats in Virginia. He owned a plantation on more than a league of land in western Fayette County, with 2,200 acres under cultivation. After emancipation, Primm's plantation employed 80 tenants to maintain its reputation as one of the best plantations in the area. A total of 600 to 900 bales of cotton were harvested annually. Beny Jene Primm (May 21, 1928 – October 16, 2015) was a prominent American physician, HIV/AIDS researcher, lecturer, and advocate for public health policy reform. Gary Primm is an American casino developer. He is the former chairman and chief executive of Primm Valley Resorts. Biography Primm grew up in San Marino, California. His father, Ernest Jay Primm, was an early developer of casinos. The town of Primm, Nevada is named after the Primmadonna casino, located there and developed by Gary's father, Ernest Primm. At the time, the city at the southern end of the California-Nevada border was known variously as "State Line" and "Stateline", creating confusion with the similarly named city near Lake Tahoe. The state naming authority considered "Primmadonna" as a new place name, ultimately settling on "Primm." Primm developed the Primadonna Casino in Primm, Nevada in the mid-1970s. Owen-Primm House
The Owen-Primm House was originally a log cabin built by Jabez Owen c. 1806, and later expanded with wood framing by Thomas Perkins Primm c. 1845. This property in Brentwood, Tennessee was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Dr. Jabez Owen was a prominent physician and planter in Brentwood who owned hundreds of acres around Moores Lane, Wilson Pike, and Concord Road. Dr. Owen was one of the wealthiest men in Williamson County, and at his death in 1850 he owned 58 slaves. Some of these antebellum slave cabins still stand on the property today. Terrible's SCORE Primm 300 is an off-road race that takes place yearly in Primm, Nevada in September. The Primm 300 is part of a series of races that include the Baja 1000, Baja 500 and San Felipe 250. The event includes various types of vehicle classes such as stock VW, production vehicles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles.
