The 2006 Torneo Descentralizado (known as the Copa Cable Mágico for sponsorship reasons) was the ninetieth season of Peruvian football. A total of 12 teams competed in the tournament, with Sporting Cristal as the defending champion. Alianza Lima won its twenty-second Primera División title after beating Cienciano in the final playoffs. The season began on February 3, 2006, and ended on December 27, 2006. The Peruvian Second Division (; known simply as ''Second Division'', and Liga 2 Caja Cusco for sponsorship reasons), officially known as Liga 2, is the second-highest division in the Peruvian football league system. Founded in 1943, it is a professional and promotional division organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. Since 2025, it has been contested by 15 teams, with promotion to the Peruvian Primera División, Liga 1, and relegation to the Peruvian Tercera División, Liga 3. Cusco
Cusco or Cuzco (; or , ) is a city in southeastern Peru, near the Sacred Valley of the Andes mountain range and the Huatanay river. Estadio Alejandro Villanueva
The Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, popularly known as Matute, is a football stadium located in the Matute neighborhood of the La Victoria district in Lima, Peru. The venue is owned by Club Alianza Lima, and it is here that the club plays at home in the Peruvian Primera División, and in international tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores or the Copa Sudamericana. The Estadio Campeones del 36 is a multi-use stadium in Sullana, Peru. It is used by the football team Alianza Atlético. The stadium holds 12,000 people and was built in 2000. It is a small stadium which was expanded. The venue name, ''Champions of 1936'', is misleading. No Peruvian League was actually played in 1936, as the national team was preparing itself to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany. Alianza Atlético did, however, win a Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol (representing their home region, Piura) governed by the Peruvian Football Federation, and the name stuck despite not being recognized officially as national champions thereafter. Club Deportivo Coronel Bolognesi is a Peruvian football club located in the city of Tacna. Originally founded on 18 October 1929, It was named after Francisco Bolognesi. Years later, a second branch of the club called Club Sport Bolito, was founded on 27 May 1998.
