Prien am Chiemsee (official: , High German [], Bavarian (local) dialect []) is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian Rosenheim (district), district of Rosenheim in Germany. The town is a certified Luftkurort, air and Sebastian Kneipp, Kneipp spa on the western shore of the lake of Chiemsee, 16 km (9.3 mi) east of Rosenheim. The name of Prien is derived from the Celtic denomination of the river Prien (''Brigenna,'' 'coming from the mountains'). Prien (river)
Prien is a river of Bavaria, Germany. Its source is at above sea level at the Spitzstein. After it discharges into the Chiemsee at the bay ''Schafwaschener Bucht''. It is one of the longest mountain streams in the Bavarian Alps. The name probably derives from the Celtic name of the river, ''Brigenna'', ''the one coming from the mountains'' (female) in Celtic languages. The town Prien am Chiemsee was named after the river. Before Prien, on a weir the is fed, which flows independently into the Chiemsee further southward. The Prien is, after the Tiroler Achen, the second largest tributary to the Chiemsee. Prien is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 7,810 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lake Charles metropolitan statistical area. Some of the area has been annexed into the city of Lake Charles. Geography Prien is located at (30.171700, -93.267384) and consists of unincorporated land on the south side of Lake Charles. The original community of Prien is located on the southeast shore of Prien Lake, a widening in the Calcasieu River, but the CDP now extends south as far as West Gauthier Road. Prien Lake
Prien Lake is a lake in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. It is located west of Prien, Louisiana, and south of the Israel LaFleur Bridge. The city of Lake Charles is located to the northeast. History Prien Lake was historically located along the Calcasieu River. Construction of the Calcasieu Ship Channel was completed in 1941, and included the construction of the Rose Bluff Cutoff, northwest of Prien Lake. The cutoff enabled a more efficient navigational route, and isolated Prien Lake from the direct flow of the river. Prien Lake connects to the Calcasieu Ship Channel at three places on the north and west sides of the lake. The land is owned by the Fobbs family.
