''Prickly Pears'' () is a 1981 Italian comedy film directed by Steno. Plot Lorenzo Millozzi is the mayor of a small town. One night, coming home, he surprises the notorious playboy Ghigo Buccilli who tries to seduce his wife: furious, he threatens the two with a gun, so as to cause a heart attack in Buccilli, who is forced to a total rest, and then to remain at the mayor's house... Steno (director)
Steno, the artistic name of Stefano Vanzina (19 January 1917 – 13 March 1988), was an Italian film director, screenwriter and cinematographer. Early Life Steno's father, Alberto Vanzina was a journalist from Piedmont working for ''Corriere della Sera''. He emigrated to South America in 1930, founding a newspaper in Venezuela. He met Steno's mother, Giulia Boggio on the ship on the journey over there. Steno was born in Rome, and spent his childhood in Arona, Piedmont, Arona. He studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, where he started to draw caricatures and write humorous articles, adopting the pseudonym "Steno", as an homage to the novels of Francesca Steno. Work Steno started working with Mario Mattioli in 1939, as set designer and writer. Steno's first film credit was with Mattioli for ''Defendant, Stand Up!'' (Italian: ''Imputato, alzatetvi''). Daniele Formica (10 June 1949 – 1 February 2011) was an Irish-born Italian actor, voice actor, theatre director, playwright and television personality. Formica was best known for portraying comical characters in various Italian comedy films in the 1980s as well as his roles in the theatre. He also appeared in the 1980 variety comedy television show '' A tutto gag''. Biography Born in Drogheda, County Louth, in Ireland, the son of Wilson Formica, an Irish violinist of Italian origin and Eugenia Ravasio, an Italian maid, Formica studied at Trinity College, Dublin, then made his stage debut in the early seventies in ''Rabelais'' by Jean-Louis Barrault. Life and career Born in Imola, a small town in the district of Bologna, after attending high school with Pier Paolo Pasolini, Daniele Vargas enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine of Bologna University.
