Price Mitchell is an American country music singer. He had six songs that made it onto the national country music charts in the 1970s and one album that charted. He recorded on Prize Records in 1971. He also released 45s and albums with GRT Records and then (after that label went bankrupt) on Sunbird Records as well as on Sunset Records (American label). His hits included "Personality" that reached #29 in April-May 1975. It was cover of the 1959 Lloyd Price Pop/R&B hit. Mitchell's duet with Jerri Kelly "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)" reached #65 in 1975, a cover of The Four Tops 1965 Pop/R&B hit. Sunbird Records was an independent record label in the United States during the late 1970s and 1980s. Freddie Hart had a few hits with Sunbird after he left Capitol Records in 1979. Earl Thomas Conley also recorded some hits with Sunbird while working with Randy Scruggs. Delbert McClinton recorded his hit "Not Exactly Free" with the label. Background The label was founded by Nelson Larkin. Elroy Kahanek was one of the label's employees. Bobby G. Rice also recorded with the label. Sheb Wooley with Hi C. Lea recorded the single "Jackhammer Man" with the label in 1981. Sunset Records was a record label started in 1965 as the budget album subsidiary of Liberty Records to reissue and issue material originally recorded for Liberty, Imperial, Minit and other Liberty subsidiaries as well as leased material from other entities. History Sunset Records was started by Liberty Records in 1965 as a budget line, with Ed Barsky at the helm. The label was named for the location of Liberty's corporate offices, and possibly a sly acknowledgement that the material was towards the end of its economic usefulness to Liberty. Lloyd Price
Lloyd Price (March 9, 1933May 3, 2021) was an American singer-songwriter, record executive and bandleader, known as "Mr. Personality", after his 1959 million-selling hit, "Personality". His first recording, "Lawdy Miss Clawdy", was a hit for Specialty Records in 1952. He continued to release records, but none were as popular until several years later, when he refined the New Orleans beat and achieved a series of national hits. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Early life, family and education Price was born on March 9, 1933, in Kenner, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans, and raised in Kenner.
