Prevost X-Series
The Prevost X-Series is a family of Coach (bus), motorcoaches and conversion shells designed and manufactured by Prevost (bus manufacturer), Prevost, a subsidiary of Volvo Buses. The current model is the X3-45, which is a (nominal) 45-foot, 3-axle bus for the intercity bus and Class A conversion motorhome markets. The ancestors of the X-Series can be traced back to 1984, when Prevost released the widebody XL Series of motorcoaches, including the LeMirage XL. A 45-foot model was added in 1992 as the XL-45, which was updated with a second generation in 2000 as the LeMirage XL-II. The third generation bus was released in 2006 as the X3-45, which competes with the Motor Coach Industries, MCI MCI D-Series, D-Series. Prevost (, ), formally known as Prevost Car, is a Canadian manufacturer of touring coaches and bus shells for high-end motorhomes and specialty conversions. The company is a subsidiary of the Volvo Buses division of the Volvo Group. History Early years (1924–1951) Prevost Car was founded by Eugène Prévost (1898–1965), a cabinet maker specializing in church pews and school furniture; in 1924 he was asked to build a custom bus body for a new REO truck chassis. Prévost's company received several repeat orders, but Prévost limited production to one bus body per winter. Practicality, style, and performance are affected by the size and weight of overhangs. In both road and rail vehicles, the wheelbase is the horizontal distance between the centers of the front and rear wheels. For road vehicles with more than two axles (e.g. some trucks), the wheelbase is the distance between the steering (front) axle and the centerpoint of the driving axle group.
