Prevail (rapper)
Kiley Hendriks (born November 4, 1975), better known by his stage name Prevail, is a four-time Juno Award winning Canadian hip hop artist raised in Victoria, British Columbia and based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prevail started rapping in 1990 with the guidance of his mentor Moka Only. Prevail was also a founding member of platinum-selling Swollen Members, which consisted primarily of himself and Mad Child on vocals. They have been called "two of the most innovative people in hip-hop",Shapiro, P: ''The Rough Guide To Hip-Hop'', page 53. Rough Guides, 2005 and released an extensive catalog with hundreds of thousands of albums sold. Aside from Swollen Members, Prevail released a side project entitled ''Code Name: Scorpion'' with Abstract Rude and Moka Only in 2001, his first solo EP ''Baseball Bat and Nails'' in 2009, and a second solo EP with producer Ol' City Rocker titled ''Spasefase'' in 2012. Shane Bunting (born October 21, 1975), better known by his stage name Madchild, is a Canadian rapper. He is part of the Vancouver-based hip hop group Swollen Members. In 2009, he released a solo EP titled ''The Madchild EP''. In 2012, he released his first album, titled '' Dope Sick'' followed by ''Lawn Mower Man'' in 2013 and '' Silver Tongue Devil'' in 2015. In 1993, he was named a member of the Rock Steady Crew. The Darkest Hour was released in 2017. Early life Bunting was born in Surrey, British Columbia, but was raised in North Vancouver. Aaron Pointer, better known by his stage name Abstract Rude, is an American rapper from Los Angeles, California. He is the rapper of Abstract Tribe Unique, alongside dancers Zulu Butterfly and Irie Lion King, turntablist DJ Drez and producer Fat Jack. He is also a member of Haiku D'Etat along with Myka 9 and Aceyalone and The A-Team along with Aceyalone. Career Pointer's career began at Los Angeles' historical Good Life Cafe, a renowned open mic venue. He would practice his rapping every Thursday night at Good Life. Armed To The Teeth (Swollen Members Album)
''Armed to the Teeth'' is Swollen Members' fifth full-length release, released on October 27, 2009. It is their first release in three years, as the group had taken a break over the past few years while member Madchild dealt with drug addiction and legal issues. The album features guest appearances by Talib Kweli and Tech N9ne. In the United States the album debuted at #146 on the ''Billboard'' 200 with 3,400 copies sold in its first week, making it their first appearance on that chart. On August 25, 2009, the first single, "Warrior" (featuring Tre Nyce and Young Kazh) was released and peaked at #94 on the Canadian Hot 100. The second single, "Red Dragon", a remix of the track of the same name, performed and produced by former Swollen Members member Moka Only on the album '' Monsters in the Closet'' was released on September 8. ''Black Magic'' is the fourth studio album by Canadian hip-hop group Swollen Members. It was released on September 12, 2006 through Battle Axe Records with distribution via TVT Records. Recording sessions took place at Battle Axe Studios and The Warehouse in Vancouver, Crack Alley Studios in Los Angeles, Mr Vegas Studio in Kingston, Soundproof West in Venice, Westlake Audio in Hollywood, and various hotel rooms across America. ''Heavy'' is the fourth studio album by Canadian hip hop group Swollen Members. It was released on November 18, 2003 through Battle Axe Records. Recording sessions took place at Battleaxe Studios in Vancouver, Evidence's Studio and Soundcastle in California. Production was handled by Rob the Viking, Nucleus, Evidence, Moka Only and The Edgecrusher. It features guest appearances from Abstract Rude and Son Doobie. An accompanying music video was directed for the single "Watch This". The album debuted at number 14 on the Canadian Albums Chart for the week ending on October 26, 2003. At the 2004 Western Canadian Music Awards, the album won in the 'Outstanding Rap/Hip-Hop Recording' category.
