''Pretty Eyes'' is a 1960 studio album by Peggy Lee that was arranged by Billy May. Reception The AllMusic review by Dave Nathan awarded the album three stars and commented that "There's no brass in the orchestra, just flutes, woodwinds, and strings. The result is that the arrangements are tame compared to charts May turned out when he had trumpets and trombones to work with. On some tracks, one gets the impression that Lee got bored with some of the complacent arrangements and shows her indifference by having a bit of fun using overly broad vowel pronunciations on such tunes as "Pretty Eyes." But on the better stuff, such as the swinging "It Could Happen to You," "Too Close for Comfort," and "Fly Me to the Moon" done as a slow ballad, she holds nothing back. Although her bountiful vocal gifts are occasionally held somewhat in check, there's still enough here to satisfy Lee and vocal fans alike". Norma Deloris Egstrom (May 26, 1920 – January 21, 2002), known professionally as Peggy Lee, was an American jazz and popular music singer, songwriter, and actress whose career spanned seven decades. "Remind Me" is a 1940 song composed by Jerome Kern, with lyrics written by Dorothy Fields. It was written in 1936 for the unproduced Universal film "Riviera", which was based on the Earl Derr Biggers novel "Love Insurance." Years later the novel was re-adapted for the film '' One Night in the Tropics'' (1940), and the same Kern and Fields score was used. The film was widely regarded as a flop, although it marked the movie debut of Abbott and Costello. The song was virtually thrown away in an early scene as it was introduced by Peggy Moran (who was dubbed by an unknown singer). Only one commercial recording in 1940 can be traced and that was the one by Leo Reisman and his Orchestra (Victor 27237). It was not a hit. The song was revived in the late 1940s by Mabel Mercer who used it in her nightclub act and it has subsequently been included by a number of prominent singers in their albums. John Herndon Mercer (November 18, 1909 – June 25, 1976) was an American lyricist, songwriter, and singer, as well as a record label executive who co-founded Capitol Records with music industry businessmen Buddy DeSylva and Wallichs Music City, Glenn E. James Melvin Lunceford (June 6, 1902 – July 12, 1947) was an American jazz alto saxophonist and bandleader in the swing era. Early life Lunceford was born on a farm in the Evergreen community, west of the Tombigbee River, near Fulton, Mississippi, United States. The farm was owned by his father, James.
