Pretendo
Pretendo is a New York City-based indie rock band formed in 2004 of ex-/present members of Enon, Skeleton Key, Creedle, The Rugburns, Mono Puff, Morricone Youth, Little Jack Melody and The DaoSon For. Guitarist/vocalist Devon E. Levins and bassist/vocalist John Castro were childhood friends playing in the Las Vegas hardcore punk band Abeyance in the 1980s. E. Levins met drummer Stephen Calhoon in 1997 when their respective bands Creedle and Skeleton Key had played together. Pretendo recorded its debut eponymous album with Wharton Tiers in New York City at Fun City Studio, which was released on April 5, 2005, by Country Club Records. The Rugburns
The Rugburns are an American rock band from San Diego, California, United States. Origins The Rugburns originally formed as a duo by Steve Poltz and Robert Driscoll. This evolved into a quartet (1993-1996) featuring Steve Poltz, "Dr." Robert Driscoll, drummer Stinky, and bassist Gregory Page. They are currently a trio (1997–present) featuring Steve Poltz, Stinky, and bassist John Castro. History The Rugburns group (not to be confused with the Los Angeles area Rugburns 1986–1989) formed and began playing in the local San Diego, CA area as a duo. Creedle
Creedle is an American rock band based in San Diego, California. They are most known for their three full length albums released on Cargo Music/Headhunter Records in the 1990s, along with numerous 7-inch singles. The band was primarily composed of Devon E. Levins a.k.a. Devon Goldberg (guitar/vocals), PieBoy a.k.a. Tim Blankenship (bass/vocals), Dr. Gein a.k.a. Dion Thurman (drums), Stretch a.k.a. Robert Walter (keyboards and samples) and Cheme a.k.a. Cochemea Gastelum (saxophone). Creedle was formed after the nearly simultaneous break ups of San Diego bands The Pull Toys, Daddy Long Legs, Holy Love Snakes and If Tomorrow. Morricone Youth is a New York City band formed in 1999 dedicated to composing, performing and recording music written for the moving image (e.g., film and television soundtrack and library production music). The band is composed of present or past members of Creedle, The Rugburns, Crash Worship, Palomar, Pretendo, Pain Teens, Yellowbirds, Fruit Bats, Mikael Jorgensen of Wilco's Pronto, Tredici Bacci, Dispatch, Steve Poltz and Norah Jones. Enon (band)
Enon was an indie rock band founded by John Schmersal, Rick Lee, and Steve Calhoon that was active from 1997 to 2011; for most of its history, however, Enon was a three-piece outfit composed of Schmersal, Toko Yasuda, and Matt Schulz. Though situated for a time in Philadelphia, Enon was primarily known for being part of the New York music scene. Enon was known for using Moog synthesizers and Teisco guitars. Schmersal's green guitar he often used on stage was a Teisco TG-64, and he also owns a Teisco Del Rey. Yasuda played a Fender Jazz Bass with an adapted tuning machine, which allowed quickly tuning to D from E. Schmersal also owns a custom built Twister guitar built by Yuri Landman, an alternate version of the Springtime exclusively crafted for Enon with some additional features such as a scalloped fretboard and an additional pickup in the bridge. Skeleton Key (band)
Skeleton Key is an American rock music, rock band (music), band based in New York City, United States. The band originated in 1994 by bassist and singer Erik Sanko, the only constant member of the band. His vision was to create a sound "luxurious, yet affordable," using antique microphones, primitive guitars, and unconventional percussion. Daniel Johnston
Daniel Dale Johnston (January 22, 1961 – September 11, 2019) was an American singer, musician and artist regarded as a significant figure in Outsider music, outsider, Lo-fi music, lo-fi, and alternative rock, alternative music scenes. Most of his work consisted of cassettes recorded alone in his home, and his music was frequently cited for its "pure" and "childlike" qualities. Johnston spent extended periods in psychiatric institutions and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He garnered a local following in the 1980s by passing out tapes of his music while working at a McDonald's in Dobie Center in Austin, Texas. Joe Castro (musician)
Joseph Armand Castro (August 15, 1927 – December 13, 2009) was an American bebop jazz pianist, based primarily on the West Coast of the United States. Biography Castro was born in Miami, Arizona on August 15, 1927. Castro began playing professionally at the age of 15 in the San Francisco Bay area. After army service ended in 1947, he formed a small band. In 1956 Castro moved to New York City, where his trio appeared in jazz clubs. In 1958, he moved to Los Angeles, where he joined Teddy Edwards' quartet. Castro recorded two albums as a leader for Atlantic Records: ''Mood Jazz'' in 1957 and ''Groove Funk Soul'' in 1960.Allmusic/ref> He often participated in informal jam sessions at the Beverly Hills estate of his partner, Doris Duke. James Victor Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter from Athens, Georgia. His first album, Little (album), ''Little'', was released in 1990. His commercial breakthrough came in 1996 with the release of ''Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation'', a charity record of alternative artists covering his songs. Chesnutt released 17 albums during his career, including two produced by Michael Stipe, and a 1996 release on Capitol Records, ''About to Choke''.
