CONTEST
CONTEST is the United Kingdom's counter-terrorism strategy, first developed by Sir David Omand and the Home Office in early 2003 as the immediate response to 9/11, and a revised version was made public in 2006. Further revisions were published on 24 March 2009, 11 July 2011 and June 2018. An Annual Report on the implementation of CONTEST was released in March 2010 and in April 2014. The aim of the strategy is "to reduce the risk to the UK and its interests overseas from terrorism so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence.""CONTEST: The United Kingdom’s Strategy for Countering Terrorism". Home Office. July 2011. The success of this strategy is not linked to total elimination of the terrorist threat, but to reducing the threat sufficiently to allow the citizens a normal life free from fear. The definition of 'Terrorism' is set out within the Terrorism Act 2000, and the Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) unit has been set up to implement CONTEST. CONT ...

Prepare (SQL)
In database management systems (DBMS), a prepared statement, parameterized statement, (not to be confused with parameterized query) is a feature where the database pre-compiles SQL code and stores the results, separating it from data. Benefits of prepared statements are: * efficiency, because they can be used repeatedly without re-compiling * security, by reducing or eliminating SQL injection attacks A prepared statement takes the form of a pre-compiled template into which constant values are substituted during each execution, and typically use SQL DML statements such as INSERT, SELECT, or UPDATE. A common workflow for prepared statements is: # Prepare: The application creates the statement template and sends it to the DBMS. Certain values are left unspecified, called ''parameters'', ''placeholders'' or ''bind variables'' (labelled "?" below): #: # Compile: The DBMS compiles (parses, optimizes and translates) the statement template, and stores the result without executing i ...

Prep (other)
PowerPC Reference Platform (PReP) was a standard system architecture for PowerPC-based computer systems (as well as a reference implementation) developed at the same time as the PowerPC processor architecture. Published by IBM in 1994, it allowed hardware vendors to build a machine that could run various operating systems, including Windows NT, OS/2, Solaris, Taligent and AIX. One of the stated goals of the PReP specification was to leverage standard PC hardware. Apple, wishing to seamlessly transition its Macintosh computers to PowerPC, found this to be particularly problematic. As it appeared no one was particularly happy with PReP, a new standard, the Common Hardware Reference Platform (CHRP), was developed and published in late 1995, incorporating the elements of both PReP and the Power Macintosh architecture. Key to CHRP was the requirement for Open Firmware (also required in PReP-compliant systems delivered after June 1, 1995), which gave vendors greatly improved support d ...
