Premiere (The O.C.)
"Premiere" (also known as "Pilot") is the series premiere of the American teen drama television series ''The O.C.'', which premiered on Fox on August 5, 2003. Written by series creator Josh Schwartz and directed by executive producer Doug Liman, the episode depicts the introduction of troubled teenager Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie) into the wealthy lifestyle of the Cohen family in Newport Beach, Orange County, California. The casting directors, Patrick J. Rush and Alyson Silverberg, began selecting the principal cast eight to ten weeks before filming started. The role of Ryan was particularly hard to cast. Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) was based on Schwartz's experiences at the University of Southern California as a "neurotic Jewish kid from the East Coast in a land of water polo players". California (Phantom Planet Song)
"California" is a song by American rock band Phantom Planet. It was released as a single from their second album '' The Guest'' in 2002. The song is about driving on U.S. Route 101, traveling to see a concert. Both the song and the band received major attention when it became the theme song on the Fox television show '' The O.C.'', and it soon became a top-10 hit in Austria, Ireland, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Song information The estates of Al Jolson and his songwriting team are co-credited for "California", presumably because the title and chorus bear strong resemblances to his own " California, Here I Come". Some websites refer to the Phantom Planet song as a cover of the Jolson tune. Joseph Lyburn Arthur (born September 28, 1971) is an American singer-songwriter and artist from Akron, Ohio. He is best known for his solo material, and as a member of Fistful of Mercy and RNDM. Arthur has built his reputation over the years through critically acclaimed releases and constant touring; his unique solo live performances often incorporate the use of a number of distortion and loop pedals, and his shows are recorded live at the soundboard and made available to concertgoers immediately following the show on recordable media. ''Redemption's Son'' is the third studio album by Joseph Arthur. The double album was first released in the UK only on May 20, 2002, due to Joseph being dropped by Virgin Records/EMI in the US. Eventually, Enjoy Records picked up the record and released it stateside on November 26, 2002 with a slightly different track listing and alternate artwork. The song "September Baby" was covered by Joseph's friend Greg Connors, and appeared on Connors' 2009 album ''Full Moon Flashlight''. Hubcap City's Bill Taft also features in the song, providing a haunting cornet solo to the song. Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band formed in 1988 in Santa Monica, California, from remnants of the group Opal (band), Opal. Founding member David Roback's friend Hope Sandoval became the group's vocalist when Kendra Smith left Opal. The band's current lineup consists of Sandoval (lead vocals, guitars, percussion), Colm Ó Cíosóig (guitars, bass, keyboards, drums), Suki Ewers (keyboards), and Josh Yenne (pedal steel guitars, guitars, drums). "Into Dust" is a song by American duo Mazzy Star that appears as the ninth track on their second album ''So Tonight That I Might See''. The song's arrangement is sparse and features only acoustic guitar and cello as an accompaniment to the vocals.
