Prem Parkash
Prem Parkash (7 April 1932 – 30 March 2025) was an Indian writer from Punjab, who "was one of the major short story writers in post-1947 East Punjabi literature." He was also known as Prem Parkash Khannvi. Life and career Parkash's native village is Bdeenpur, which once belonged to the Nabha dynasty. He took his basic education from Bhadson village and then went to Khanna for matriculation. . He did J.B.T. from Christian Basic Training School Kharar. He completed his graduation in 1963–64 and then post-graduation from Panjab University, Chandigarh in Urdu. Parkash began his career as a farmer in Badgujjran near Amloh. He then taught in a primary school from 1953 up to 1962 then worked as an editor of an Urdu newspaper in Jalandhar from 1964 up to 1969 and then as a sub-editor for '' Hind Samachar'' from 1969 to 1990. In 1970, he started a literary magazine, ''Lakeer'', in collaboration with Surjit Hans. He died on 30 March 2025, at the age of 92. Nawanshahar
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district is one of twenty-three districts of state of Punjab, India, Punjab, India. It is located in Doaba region. ''Hind Samachar'' () is a daily Urdu newspaper that is circulated in Mumbai. It was one of the three newspaper started by the Punjab Kesari Group back in 1948. Combined these three newspapers have combined circulation of 975,000 copies on weekdays and 1.05 million copies on weekends. The head office is located in Civil Lines in Mumbai, and the newspaper is printed from Jalandhar, Ambala, and Jammu. History At the height of Punjab insurgency in the 1980s, founder Jagat Narain, who opposed terrorism was killed by terrorists in 1981, his son Ramesh Chander, an editor of the paper formed a 'Shaheed Parivar Fund' (Martyr Family Fund) for victims of terrorism in 1983, though a year later he himself was killed by terrorists. In all the newspaper lost 62 newspaper agents, hawkers, sub-editors and senior-sub editors to terrorists. Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize
Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize or Sahitya Akademi Prize for Translation is a literary honour in India, presented by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, given to "outstanding translations of creative and critical works" in 24 major Languages of India, Indian languages such as English, Rajasthani and the List of languages by number of native speakers in India, 22 listed languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India, Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution recognised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. Sahitya Akademi Award
The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honour in India, which the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 22 languages of the 8th Schedule to the Indian constitution as well as in English and Rajasthani language. Established in 1954, the award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000. The award's purpose is to recognise and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends. The annual process of selecting awardees runs for the preceding twelve months. The plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi was designed by the Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray. Prior to this, the plaque occasionally was made of marble, but this practice was discontinued because of the excessive weight. Surjit Hans
Surjit Hans (31 October 1930 – 17 January 2020), also appears as Surjeet Hans, was an Indian writer, tragedian, scholar and lecturer. He is also credited with being a "translator" for translating all the tragedies and thirty eight plays of William Shakespeare into Punjabi language. His name also appears in "historians" and "poets" for his research on history of Sikhism and writing novels and poems. Hans wrote sixty books, including ''Mittti Di Dheri'', ''Loon Di Dali'' and ''Mrit Da Sapna'' throughout his life. He became the recipient of a literary honor Sahitya Akademi Award twice in recognition of his contribution to the Punjabi literature and language. It is believed he spent more than twenty years living a "Bard of Avon" life since he started translation work, including ''Macbeth'' which he did in 1955.
