Prelude To Harvest
''Prelude to Harvest'' is a 1963 Australian television play. It was written by Kay Keavney and directed by Colin Dean. The production was broadcast to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Captain Phillip's landing at Sydney Cove. Plot In January 1789 in London, a ship is loading up with convicts including 200 women. Six months later the ship is still there with the convicts on board, in miserable condition. In Sydney, a ship is meant to arrive with supplies but is wrecked on the way. Governor Philip must come up with a plan to avoid famine in the colony. Kay Keavney
Kay Keavney (1921–1989) was an Australian writer. She was born in Sydney and completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney. She went to work at the ABC, the youngest person and the first woman to be hired as a scriptwriter by that organisation. She resigned from the ABC in 1945. In the late 1940s she wrote serials and plays for various networks and production companies and became one of the leading writers of Australian radio. She went to London to study writing TV drama at the BBC and wrote episodes of ''The Adventures of Long John Silver''. She won two Walkley Awards for her journalism. James Ruse
James Ruse (9 August17595 September 1837) was a Cornish farmer who, at age 23, was convicted of burglary and was sentenced to seven years' transportation. He arrived at Sydney Cove, New South Wales, on the First Fleet with 18 months of his sentence remaining. Ruse applied to Colony Governor Arthur Phillip for a land grant, stating that he had been bred for farming. Governor Phillip, desperate to make the colony self-sufficient, allocated Ruse an allotment at Rose Hill (now Rosehill, near Parramatta), where he proved himself industrious and showed that it was possible for a family to survive in New South Wales through farming. Ruse received a land grant, from which he grew and sold 600 bushels of corn . Ruse was the recipient of the first land grant in New South Wales. Philip Gidley King
Captain Philip Gidley King (23 April 1758 – 3 September 1808) was a British politician who was the third Governor of New South Wales. When the First Fleet arrived in January 1788, King was detailed to colonise Norfolk Island for defence and foraging purposes. As Governor of New South Wales, he helped develop livestock farming, whaling and mining, built many schools and launched the colony's first newspaper. But conflicts with the military wore down his spirit, and they were able to force his resignation. King Street in the Sydney CBD is named in his honour. Keith Buckley
Keith Buckley (born November 19, 1979) is an American singer, best known as the vocalist and lyricist of the now defunct hardcore punk band Every Time I Die and the heavy metal supergroup The Damned Things. He is also a published author. Early life and education Buckley was born in Buffalo, New York. He attended Virginia Tech and then the University at Buffalo before doing music full-time. Watkin Tench
Lieutenant General Watkin Tench (6 October 1758 – 7 May 1833) was a British marine officer who is best known for publishing two books describing his experiences in the First Fleet, which established the first European settlement in Australia in 1788. His two accounts, ''Narrative of the Expedition to Botany Bay'' and ''Complete Account of the Settlement at Port Jackson'' provide an account of the arrival and first four years of the colony. Reg Gorman
Reg Gorman (2 August 1932 – 5 August 2021) was an Australian television and film actor, and comedian, he was known best for his role in TV serial ''The Sullivans'', as Jack Fletcher. and children's series '' Fergus McPhail'' as Harry Patterson. Gorman was also active in radio dramas and theatre and was one of the last active vaudeville performers in Australia.

Personal life

Reg Gorman, trained with Hayes Gordon and Theatre Company, he was married to fellow actor Judith Roberts. The couple had three children: Kate, Karl and Charmaine. They raised their children together while working in the theatre, television and film industries.

Robert Ross (British Marines Officer)
Major Robert Ross (c.17409 June 1794) was the officer in charge of the First Fleet garrison of marines, and Lieutenant-Governor of the convict settlement of Norfolk Island. Life and career Ross was born in Scotland, and joined the marines in June 1756, being present at the siege of Louisburg and the capture of Quebec during the Seven Years' War (1756–63). Promoted to captain, he saw action at Bunker Hill in June 1775 during the American War of Independence. He was aboard in August 1779 when it was captured and he was taken prisoner by the French. In 1786 he volunteered for the newly formed New South Wales Marine Corps and was designated its commander with the brevet rank of major. Accompanied by his eight-year-old son, he sailed to New South Wales on , transferring to '' Scarborough'' during the voyage. Terry McDermott (actor)
Terry McDermott (1928 - 14 December 2018) was an Australian stage, radio and television actor known for his roles in the series ''Homicide'' and '' Bellbird''. Career McDermott played Detective Sergeant Frank Bronson, one of three main characters, in the Crawford Productions police series ''Homicide'' from its 1964 debut until 1966. He left the show due to a disagreement over contracts and concerns about performing his own stunts. His character was killed in Episode 58. In 1969, he joined the cast of the soap opera Bellbird, remaining with the series until 1973. McDermott and fellow cast member Gary Gray produced ''Country Town'', a film based on the series. Richard Meikle
Richard Meikle (10 October 1929 – 2 June 1991) was an Australian actor who worked extensively in film, theatre, and radio. He was the father of writer Sam Meikle. Career Meikle began his career as a stage actor. His first recorded role was in Metropolitan Theatre's production of '' Ned Kelly'' in 1947. In the 1950s, Meikle moved into radio acting, most prominently with Grace Gibson Radio Productions. Meikle's voice landed him many major roles with the company as both an actor and an announcer. Meikle was included in Reg James' list of his favourite Grace Gibson performances for his starring role alongside John Unicomb in the serial ''Becket''. Another factor working in Meikle's favour was his ability and desire to perform his own sound effects.
