Prazeres (Calheta)
Prazeres ( en, pleasures) is a civil parish in the municipality of Calheta in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. The population in 2011 was 704, in an area of 10.03 km2. Prazeres is located along the main Regional 222 Roadway, linking it to Fajã da Ovelha and Estreito da Calheta. Agriculture continues to be the driving activity in the region, although commercial establishments are scattered within the community. History The name for the parish developed due to the existence of a small chapel in the area before the creation of the parish, dedicated to Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres ( en, Our Lady of Pleasures). The reference to ''pleasure'' came from local references to an area that captivated the senses and the areas symbiosis with earthly pleasures. Historically a part of Estreito da Calheta, this region became independent, along with some homes in Fajã da Ovelha on 18 December 1676. Madeira Island
Madeira is a Portuguese island, and is the largest and most populous of the Madeira Archipelago. It has an area of , including Ilhéu de Agostinho, Ilhéu de São Lourenço, Ilhéu Mole (northwest). Fajã da Ovelha is a civil parish in the municipality of Calheta in the Portuguese island of Madeira. The population in 2011 was 895, in an area of 22.16 km². Caminho Real Do Paul Do Mar
The Caminho Real do Paul do Mar (''Royal Path of Paul do Mar'') is a municipal trail in Paul do Mar, in the island of Madeira (Portugal). It is the first walking trail of the annual Madeira Walking Festival, which takes place in January. The trail starts from the village of Prazeres ( altitude) , and goes down to Paul do Mar Harbour . Paul Do Mar
Paul do Mar is a civil parish in the municipality of Calheta, in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. The population in 2011 was 871, in an area of 1.40 km2. History The origin of the toponymy ''paul do mar'' is linked to its geographic position, since ''paul'' refers to an elongated zone, which is justified by the parish's location along the southwest coast of Madeira. Its exposure to the ocean, and historical periods when the sea bathed the area with seawater, once characterised the area as the ''Sitio da Lagoa'' or ''Alagoa'' ( en, site of the lake or ''the lake''). Historically, the area experienced flooding from the sea when the Atlantic submerged and inundated fields to a depth of one metre. As a result, a salt factory was established.
