Prayag Dutta Joshi was an Indian writer and Sambalpuri language (allegedly also known as ''Kosli'') activist. He was born on 25 February 1913 to Shri Chandrasekhar Patjoshi and Smt. Brundabati Devi in Khariar Khariar (also called Khadial, Rajkhariar and Rajakhariar) is a city and a Notified Area Council in Nuapada District of the Indian state of Odisha. Education He studied up to class 8th at Raj Khariar and then went to Raipur for higher studies and completed his matriculation in 1932. He privately studied Ayurveda from 1934 to 1938 in Kashi at Kabiraj Dharamdas Chaukacharya. He was awarded with gold medal for securing the first position in All India level Ayurveda examination held in 1938. Khariar
Khariar (also called Khadial, Rajkhariar and Rajakhariar) is a city and a Notified Area Council in Nuapada District of the Indian state of Odisha. History The region of Khariar was under the rule of the Chauhan dynasty of Patna State which was established by Ramai Deva of the Chauhan dynasty in the 14th cen CE who were vassals of the Eastern Ganga dynasty which was declining following invasions from the northern part of the Indian subcontinent. The Chauhan reign from Patnagarh continued over the region and later expanded through the establishment of their cadet branches extending their rule over areas of Western Odisha and eastern Chhattisgarh. In 1600 CE, Raja Gopal Rai who belonged to the Chauhan family of Balangir was crowned as the first king of Khariar. This led to the formation of the Khariar zamindari that remained until Indian independence in 1947. Nuapada is a town in western region of Odisha state of eastern India. It is the headquarter of Nuapada district. Nuapada district was carved out of the undivided Kalahandi district on 27 March 1993. It is on the western border of Odisha with Chhattisgarh. The district is part of Odisha both linguistically and culturally. It is one of the most underdeveloped districts of Odisha and India as well. Demographics Nuapada has an estimated population of 6,10,382 people. With the male population contributing 3,01,962 and female population contributing 3,08,420 to the total population. Sambalpuri Language
Sambalpuri is an Indo-Aryan language variety spoken in western Odisha, India. It is alternatively known as Western Odia, and as Kosali (with variants ''Kosli'', ''Koshal'' and ''Koshali''), a recently popularised but controversial term, which draws on an association with the historical region of Dakshina Kosala, whose territories also included the present-day Sambalpur region. Its speakers usually perceive it as a separate language, while outsiders have seen it as a dialect of Odia, and standard Odia is used by Sambalpuri speakers for formal communication. A 2006 survey of the varieties spoken in four villages found out that they share three-quarters of their basic vocabulary with Standard Odia. Geographical Distribution There were million people in India who declared their language to be Sambalpuri at the 2011 census, almost all of them residents in Odisha.
