Corunastylis
''Corunastylis'' is a historically recognized genus of about 50 species of orchids, native to Australia and New Zealand, now included in the genera ''Genoplesium'' and ''Prasophyllum''. In 1888, Robert Fitzgerald formally described ''Corunastylis apostasioides'' and published the description in ''Australian Orchids'', the first time the name ''Corunastylis'' had been used. In 1889, Ferdinand von Mueller changed the name to ''Prasophyllum apostasioides'' and in 1989, David Jones and Mark Clements placed it and most other species of ''Prasophyllum'' into ''Genoplesium''. In 2002 Jones and Clements moved all the species of ''Genoplesium'' back into ''Corunastylis'' except for the New South Wales species '' Genoplesium baueri''. A recent phylogenetic analysis of Prasophyllinae suggests that ''Corunastylis'' is paraphyletic, and funding from The Australian Orchid Foundation is supporting field work and molecular studies to improve understanding of the phylogeny of the subtribe. Diurideae is a tribe of orchid in the subfamily Orchidoideae. It contains about 40 accepted genera. , its division into subtribes remained unclear. Genera Chase et al. Prasophyllum Elatum
''Prasophyllum elatum'', commonly known as the tall leek orchid, snake orchid or piano orchid, is a species of orchid in the family Orchidaceae which is endemic to Australia. It is one of the tallest orchids found in Western Australia as well as one of the most common and widespread. It often flowers in large numbers after a bushfire and has a relatively long flowering period. Description The tall leek orchid is a tuberous perennial herb growing to a height of 0.3-1.2 m, sometimes 1.50 m. It has a single leaf, up to 120 cm long and a flower spike crowded, often with up to 60 flowers. The flowers are pale yellowish-green to brownish or purplish black and faintly fragrant with the sepal at the back of the flower up to 11 mm long. The flowers appear from August to October. Rudolf Schlechter
Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter (16 October 1872 – 16 November 1925) was a German taxonomist, botanist, and author of several works on orchids. He went on botanical expeditions in Africa, Indonesia, New Guinea, South and Central America and Australia. His vast herbarium was destroyed during the bombing of Berlin in 1945. Early life Rudolf Schlechter was born on 16 October 1872 in Berlin, the third of six children; his father Hugo Schlechter was a lithographer. After finishing school at the Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium he started a horticulture education at a gardening market. He later worked at the University of Berlin garden. There he worked as an assistant till the autumn of 1891. His brother was Max Schlechter (1874–1960), was a German trader and collector of natural history specimens. ''Genoplesium'' commonly known as midge orchids, is a genus of about 50 species of flowering plants in the orchid family, Orchidaceae and is found in Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. Midge orchids are terrestrial herbs with a single leaf at the base of the plant. They are similar to orchids in the genus ''Prasophyllum'' in that plants without flowers have a hollow, onion-like leaf. The flowers are small but often scented and attractive to their insect pollinators. There is disagreement about which species belong to this genus and some taxonomists suggest that most belong in the genus '' Corunastylis''. ''Prasophyllum'', commonly known as leek orchids, is a genus of about 140 species of flowering plants in the orchid family, Orchidaceae and is found in Australia and New Zealand. The Australian species are found in all states but have not been recorded in the Northern Territory. The common name arises from their having a hollow, leek- or onion-like leaf.
