Prashanti Talpankar
Prashanti Talpankar (born 29 April 1963) is an Indian writer, translator, playwright, and actor. She is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize for her work in Konkani language, Konkani and is a cancer survivor. Early life Prashanti Talpankar grew up as a student leader and as a part of Goa's historic Konkani language agitation, official language agitation. She has also been a part of Bailancho Saad, an organisation that works towards women's rights. Notably, she went on a hunger strike in 1989, protesting against the lack of action in a case of sexual assault. Career Talpankar currently serves as an associate professor at Dnyanprassarak Mandal's College. Writing Talpankar has been into writing since her college days. Sandesh Prabhudesai
Sandesh Prabhudesai is an Indian journalist and author from Goa. His writings cover Politics, History, Culture and Social aspects. Early and personal life Prabhudesai's parents Manohar and Shobha were freedom fighters, hailing from Loliem, Canacona. He has been an activist, right from his student days. He was active as a student leader of Progressive Students Union (PSU), Goa, in the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1990s, he was part of the group that advocated for a free and fair Goa Right to Information Act (GRIA) of 1997. He is also actively asssociated with literary and cultural movemens of Goa. ''Paltadacho Munis'' or ''The Man Beyond the Bridge'' is an Indian film in Konkani directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar. Set in Goa, the film is about a recently widowed forest ranger in a dwindling forest, who strikes up an unlikely relationship with a woman he finds lost and alone in the woods. The film tries to destigmatise mental illness, often equated with being possessed by the devil in rural India. ''Juze'' or ''Juje'' is a 2017 Indian film in Konkani language, Konkani, written and directed by Miransha Naik. The film is about the social injustice and exploitation faced by migrant labourers in Goa, and is set in the 1990s. It was co-produced by people from India, France and Netherlands (Thin Air, Three Rivers, Kepler Films, Cine-Sud Promotion) under the banner of Goa Film Bazaar, with some of the editing done in Paris. ''Baga Beach'' is 2013 Indian Konkani-language film written and directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar. It followed his critically acclaimed '' Paltadacho Munis'' (2009). Set in the eponymous Baga Beach in Goa, it was made at a budget of crore, making it the most expensive film yet of Konkani cinema. The film deals with the underbelly of tourism in Goa, with issues of paedophilia and child sexual abuse, conflict between locals and immigrants leading to hostility towards migrant laborers, impact of holidaying foreigners on local culture. The film had an Indian, German and French cast, including Bengali actress Paoli Dam, who spoke Hindi in the film. It was shot in Goa with an handheld camera in sync sound.
