Prairie State Park
Prairie State Park is a public recreation area encompassing nearly of grasslands and woodlands in Barton County, Missouri. The state park preserves much of the few remaining acres of tallgrass prairie in the state. The park features hiking trails, camping for backpackers, and a nature center. Captive wild bison and elk roam the park. The bison herd contains about 100 individuals as of spring 2021. Barton County, Missouri
Barton County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,637. Its county seat is Lamar. The county was organized in 1855 and named after U.S. Senator David Barton from Missouri. President Harry S. Truman was born in Barton County in 1884. A grassland is an area where the vegetation is dominance (ecology), dominated by grasses (Poaceae). Temperate Grasslands, Savannas And Shrublands
Temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands are terrestrial biomes defined by the World Wide Fund for Nature. The predominant vegetation in these biomes consists of grass and/or shrubs. The climate is temperate and ranges from semi-arid to semi-humid. The habitat type differs from tropical grasslands in the annual temperature regime and the types of species found here.
