Pozzallo
Pozzallo () is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, southern Italy. Pozzallo is now a major summer tourist destination: as of March 2020, two beaches in Pozzallo hold a Blue Flag award, presented by the FEE and given to beaches which meet strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services. Very few beaches retain this award in Sicily, including the two located in Pozzallo. Port Of Pozzallo
The Port of Pozzallo is the major port of the province of Ragusa on the Mediterranean coast of Sicily and is one of the most important harbours on the island. The port was initially designed for a volume of goods of only 500.000 tons a year but today it has risen to over 1.500.000 tons. The port is located at the western end of Pozzallo, which is from Malta. It is well placed for connections to north Africa. History The first steps in construction were taken by the authorities in 1935 in Pozzallo but the first structure was not built until 1960 when a pier was built for petrol products. Torre Cabrera (Pozzallo)
The Torre Cabrera () is an imposing "palacium" which combined the function of a noble residence with that of a control point for grain and goods, built in the 15th century. Today, it is in good condition and it is open to the public as a museum. History In the 15th century, the site of Pozzallo had natural springs known as "Pozzofeto" and "Senia", which were marked on nautical charts and were well known among sailors. The "palacium" was built in the early fifteenth century in Sicilian Gothic style at the behest of the Count of Modica Giovanni Bernardo Cabrera, a member of one of the most illustrious Catalan families, the Viscounts Cabrera and Bas and the Counts of Osona, who supported and financed the Spanish sovereigns in reconquest of Sicily and received in exchange the county of Modica confiscated from the Chiaramonte rebels. The province of Ragusa (; ) was a province in the autonomous region of Sicily, Italy, located in the southeast of the island.
