Poznań Philharmonic
Tadeusz Szeligowski Poznań Philharmonic is a regional cultural institution founded in 1947 on the initiative of Tadeusz Szeligowski as the State Philharmonic in Poznań; one of the two philharmonics in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. History The inauguration of the Philharmonic's activities took place on 10 November 1947 under the direction of Stanisław Wisłocki. Since March 1950, the Poznań Nightingales Choir, headed by Stefan Stuligrosz, has been operating at the Philharmonic. The Philharmonic is connected with Polish contemporary music festivals "Poznań Spring", another initiative of Szeligowski. The concert hall of the Philharmonic is the Hall of the Adam Mickiewicz University, considered to be one of the best in terms of acoustics in Poland. An orchestra (; ) is a large instrumental ensemble typical of classical music, which combines instruments from different families. Wojciech Michniewski
Wojciech Michniewski (born April 4, 1947) is a Polish composer and conductor. Michniewski studied with Stanisław Wisłocki as well as Andrzej Dobrowolski at the State Music Academy in Warsaw. From 1973 to 1978 he was the conductor of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. With Krzysztof Knittel and Elżbieta Sikora he founded the composer group KEW (1973–77). For his piece ''Whisperetto'' he received the Premio RAI of the Italian radio and television in 1975. He won the 1977 Cantelli Award and the bronze medal at Ernest Ansermet competition in Geneva the following year. From 1979 to 1981 Michniewski was artistic director of the Teatr Wielki in Łódź, parallel to that, he was music director of the stage for contemporary music of the Warsaw Chamber Opera until 1983. Henryk Szeryng (usually pronounced ''HEN-r-ik SHEH-r-in-g'') (22 September 19183 March 1988) was a Polish violinist. Early years He was born in Warsaw, Poland on 22 September 1918 into a wealthy Jewish family. The surname "Szeryng" is a Polish transliteration of his Yiddish surname, which nowadays would be spelled "Shering" in the modern Yiddish-to-English transliteration. Henryk started piano and harmony lessons with his mother when he was 5, and at age 7 turned to the violin, receiving instruction from Maurice Frenkel. After studies with Carl Flesch in Berlin (1929–32), he went to Paris to continue his studies with Jacques Thibaud at the Conservatory, graduating with a premier prix in 1937. Carlo Zecchi (8 July 190331 August 1984) was an Italian pianist, music teacher and conductor. Zecchi was born in Rome. A pupil of F. Baiardi for piano and of L. Refice and A. Roberto Benzi (born 1937) is a French conductor and former child actor. Early life Roberto Benzi was born on December 12, 1937, in Marseille, France. His parents discovered his musicality when he was very young, and taught him solfège and piano. As a teenager he acted in two films. When he was about ten years old he received instruction from André Cluytens. Career In 1960, at age 22, he made his first recordings with the Lamoureux Orchestra of works by Liszt, Beethoven, Bizet, Rossini, Respighi, and many more, for the Philips label, all released in the famous Hi-Fi Stereo series. Hermann Paul Maximilian Abendroth (19 January 1883 – 29 May 1956) was a German conductor. Early life Abendroth was born on 19 January 1883, at Frankfurt, the son of a bookseller. Several other members of the family were artists in diverse disciplines.
