Apia () is the capital and largest city of Samoa, as well as the nation's only city. It is located on the central north coast of Upolu, Samoa's second-largest island. Powerlifting at the 2015 Pacific Games was held from 9–10 July 2015 in the Sir John Guise Indoor Power Dome at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The host nation Papua New Guinea was the dominant team, particularly in the women's divisions where it claimed six of the seven possible gold medals. Nauru was the strongest team in the men's divisions, winning four of the eight weight categories. Telupe Iosefa received the first ever gold medal won by Tuvalu at the Pacific Games in the 120 kg male division. Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Powerlifting evolved from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. Eventually odd lifts became standardized to the current three. In competition, lifts may be performed equipped or un-equipped (typically referred to as 'classic' or 'raw' lifting in the IPF specifically). 2019 Pacific Games
The 2019 Pacific Games was the sixteenth edition of the Pacific Games. The Games were held in Apia, Samoa, returning there for the first time since 2007. It was the third time overall that the Pacific Games were held in Samoa. The event was initially awarded to Nukuʻalofa, Tonga, but the Tongan government officially withdrew from hosting it in May 2017, amid concerns the country could face economic difficulties if it proceeded. These Games included an additional discipline for basketball, which is the 3x3 format, as well as the return of archery and badminton which were not on the 2015 Pacific Games program. Host selection First bidding process In mid 2012, two cities were confirmed as serious bidders in hosting the 2019 Pacific Games. Tuanaimato
Tuanaimato is a geographical area near Apia, Samoa. It is the site of the one hundred acre Faleata Sporting Complex which houses, among other facilities, a 12,000 seater soccer stadium (home of Tuanaimato Breeze, a Samoan soccer team), a baseball stadium, hockey fields and an 'aquatic centre' (for swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo). Telupe Iosefa
Telupe Iosefa (born 1 November 1986, in Nukulaelae) is a Tuvaluan powerlifter. In 2015 Telupe Iosefa received the first ever gold medal won by Tuvalu at the Pacific Games in the powerlifting 120 kg male division. Career The Tuvalu Weightlifting Federation staged its first national competition on 2 July 2013 as part of the 2013 Tuvalu Games. Telupe Iosefa won the 105 kg male division. At the 2013 Commonwealth Men's Powerlifting Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, Iosefa won the silver medal in the 105 kg male division with a total of 647.5 kg. In 2014 he achieved the best performance in the squat lift with 316 kg in the 120 kg male division at the Oceania Powerlifting Federation event on 14 December 2014 at Melbourne, Australia.
