Power Comics
Power Comics was an imprint of the British comics publisher Odhams Press (itself a division of IPC Magazines) that was particularly notable for its use of material reprinted from American Marvel Comics. Appearing chiefly during the years 1967 and 1968, the Power Comics line consisted of five weekly titles: ''Wham!'', '' Smash!'', '' Pow!'', ''Fantastic'' and '' Terrific''. The first three of these titles were essentially traditional ''The Beano''-style British comics papers, supplemented by a small amount of Marvel and DC Comics material, while ''Fantastic'' and ''Terrific'' were more magazine-like in style and were dominated by their Marvel superhero content. Odhams Press
Odhams Press was a British publishing company, operating from 1920 to 1968. Originally a magazine publisher, Odhams later expanded into book publishing and then children's comics. The company was acquired by Fleetway Publications in 1961 and then IPC Magazines in 1963. In its final incarnation, Odhams was known for its Power Comics line of titles, notable for publishing reprints of American Marvel Comics superheroes. History William Odhams; Odhams Bros. TI Media Ltd. (formerly International Publishing Company, IPC Magazines Ltd, IPC Media and Time Inc. UK) was a consumer magazine and digital publisher in the United Kingdom, with a portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year. Most of its titles now belong to Future plc. The ''Batman'' comic strip began on October 25, 1943, a few years after the creation of the comic book ''Batman''. At first titled ''Batman and Robin'', and briefly lengthened to ''Batman with Robin the Boy Wonder'' as a tie-in with the 1966 ''Batman'' television series, a later incarnation was ultimately shortened to ''Batman''. Eagle (British Comics)
''Eagle'' was a British children's British comics, comics periodical, first published from 1950 to 1969, and then in a relaunched format from 1982 to 1994. It was founded by Marcus Morris (publisher), Marcus Morris, an Anglican vicar from Lancashire. Morris edited a Southport parish magazine called ''The Anvil'', but felt that the church was not communicating its message effectively. Simultaneously disillusioned with contemporary children's literature, he and ''Anvil'' artist Frank Hampson created a dummy comic based on Christian values. Morris proposed the idea to several Fleet Street publishers, with little success, until Hulton Press took it on. Following a huge publicity campaign, the first issue of ''Eagle'' was released in April 1950. Fleetway Publications
Fleetway Publications was a magazine publishing company based in London. History It was founded in 1959 when the Mirror Group acquired the Amalgamated Press, then based at Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London. It was one of the companies that merged into the IPC group in 1963, and the Fleetway banner continued to be used until 1968 when all IPC's publications were reorganised into the unitary IPC Magazines. In 1987 IPC's comics line was sold to Robert Maxwell as Fleetway Publications. Egmont UK bought Fleetway from Maxwell in 1991, merging it with their own comics publishing operation, ''London Editions'', to form Fleetway Editions, but the name "Fleetway" ceased to appear on their comics some time after 2002.
