Pound Ridge is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 5,104 at the 2010 census. The town is located toward the eastern end of the county, bordered to the north and east by the town of Lewisboro, by Stamford, Connecticut, and New Canaan, Connecticut, to the south, Bedford, New York, and North Castle to the west. History In the early seventeenth century Pound Ridge was inhabited by Native Americans who spoke the Munsee language and were members of the Wappinger Confederacy. The geographical boundaries of the tribes within the Confederacy are unclear. Pound Ridge has been variously listed as within the territory of the Kitchawong, Siwanoy, and Tankiteke bands. Pound, Virginia
Pound is a town in Wise County, Virginia, United States. The population was recorded as 1,037 in the 2010 United States Census. History The Pound area was explored in 1751 by Christopher Gist, and it is traditionally said to be the oldest settlement in Wise County. Also known as "The Pound," the name may derive from a family name, or from a pounding mill built in the area in 1815. The county's first post office was established there in 1848. Pound was not incorporated until 1950, the last town in Wise County to do so. Historically, the town's economy benefited from the area's coal mining industry. In the 1940s, the town had nearly a dozen bars catering to miners from nearby Kentucky. As mining declined in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, Pound—like much of Southwest Virginia—saw its economy and tax base collapse. Pound is a village in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 377 at the 2010 census. The village is located within the Town of Pound. Pound is part of the Marinette, WI– MI Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The village and town of Pound were named for Thaddeus Coleman Pound (1832–1914), a Wisconsin state politician and businessman; Pound was the grandfather of the poet Ezra Pound. In 1994 the weight-loss program SlimFast used the town as a trial for its program. Residents believed that SlimFast used the town because of the name Pound; however the company said they used the town because it had the highest rate of obesity in the United States. Pound (later Flywheel) was an American rock band from Poughkeepsie, New York. History Four of the members of Pound were in a New York glam metal band in the early 1990s. Later in the decade, they went on to be signed with EMI Music Publishing working closely with then EMI V.P. Evan Lamberg. Shortly after recording what was to be their first self-titled release they parted ways with original singer Corey Ray DiGiovanni and changed stylistically. In 1999, they signed with Island Records and released their debut album, ''Same Old Life'', produced by Tom Lord-Alge. ''Pound'' was a Toronto-based hip hop magazine that was distributed for free across Canada. Founded in 1998 and beginning publication in December 1999, ''Pound'' was published quarterly. It ceased publishing in 2010, after releasing its 45th issue. History ''Pound'' was founded by Rodrigo Bascunan, Andrew Cappell, Kostas Pagiamtzis and Christian Pearce in May 1998. Its current editor is Rodrigo Bascunan. Since its inception, the magazine was known for its sense of humor and political content, specifically the "Babylon System" column that would eventually spawn a book. The magazine has featured many luminaries in its pages, often highlighting artists before their big breaks.
