Postal Codes In Afghanistan
Afghanistan introduced Postal Codes/ ZIP codes in 2011 in a press conference held in Kabul. They are managed by Afghan Post, the national public postal service under the direction of Afghan Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Afghanistan postal codes are four digits (NNNN). The first two digits (ranging from 10–43) correspond to the province, while the last two digits correspond either to the city/delivery zone (range 01–50) or to the district/delivery zone (range 51–99). Afghan Post
Afghan Post is the national postal organization of Afghanistan. It has offices in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan, and is getting close to having offices in all 364 districts. Afghan Post is responsible for providing courier services in Afghanistan. Most homes in Afghanistan, particularly in older neighborhoods and in the rural areas, still do not have street addresses. Names and other descriptions may be used in place of street addresses. Afghanistan first established mail service in 1870, where it received international recognition. In late 1970s, it had grown into one of the stronger regional postal services, able to send and receive letters from anywhere in the world. During the 1990s, the Afghan postal service was suspended due to a civil war in the country. Sending a letter usually meant having to find someone traveling in the direction of the recipient willing to carry a note and hoping for the best.
