Rohan Khaunte
Rohan Ashok Khaunte (born 25 February 1974) is a politician and philanthropist who serves as the Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C and Printing and Stationery in the Government of Goa. He also serves as a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, representing the Porvorim constituency constituency since 2012. Khaunte has previously served as Minister of IT, Revenue, Labour and Employment and Planning and Statistics and Evaluation in the Cabinet of Manohar Parrikar. Khaunte first contested the Goa Legislative Assembly Elections in 2012 as an independent candidate from the newly formed Porvorim constituency. During his political career, Khaunte has initiated several social initiatives for public welfare under Porvorim Youth Welfare Trust and Chairman of Sporting Clube de Porvorim. North Goa District
North Goa district is one of the two districts that constitutes the state of Goa, India. The district has an area of , and is bounded by Kolhapur and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra state to the north and by Belgavi district of Karnataka to the east, by South Goa district to the south, and by the Arabian Sea to the west. Historical background At the advent of the Portuguese in AD 1510, all of today's northern territories ( Ilhas, Bardez, Pernem, Bicholim, Antruz, and Sattari) were part of the Bijapur Sultanate. Porvorim (pronounced ), is the '' de facto'' legislative and executive capital of the state of Goa as both the Goa Legislative Assembly and Secretariat are functioning from the same complex in the region of Alto Porvorim in porvorim.(Alto – Portuguese word meaning high or upper). 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly Election
The Goa legislative assembly election was held on 3 March 2012, to select the 40 members of the Sixth Goa Legislative Assembly, as the term of 5th Goa Legislative Assembly ended in March 2012. The result was announced on 6 March. The Bharatiya Janata Party- Maharashtrawadi Gomantak alliance defeated the incumbent Indian National Congress government in Goa led by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat with 24 seats in the 40-seat assembly.
