The Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (English: Portuguese Professional Football League), also known by its acronym LPFP, is a governing body that manages professional football club competitions in Portugal. It was founded in 1978 as Liga Portuguesa dos Clubes de Futebol Profissional and works as an autonomous organism under the authority of the Portuguese Football Federation. In 1991, it changed its name to Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Professional and in the year 2020, changed the name into the current one. The LP is responsible for the organisation and supervision of the top two leagues, Liga Portugal, Liga Portugal 2 and of the Taça da Liga, a knockout cup competition limited to the clubs competing in these professional leagues (except reserve or B teams). LPFP Awards
The LPF Awards are a number of awards given annually during the Portuguese League for Professional Football (LPF) gala, and the winners are chosen by a vote amongst the LPFP pairs. Between 2006 and 2010 the winners were chosen only by a vote amongst the members of Sports National Press Club (CNID). Jorge Nuno de Lima Pinto da Costa (28 December 1937 – 15 February 2025) () was a Portuguese sports executive, who was president of Portuguese sports club FC Porto, Porto from 1982 until 2024. He was the president with most titles won (69) in the history of association football, football and most days in charge as a president of association football club. Manuel Damásio
Manuel Damásio Soares Garcia (born 9 July 1940), known as Manuel Damásio, is a Portuguese businessman who served as the 30th president of sports club Benfica. Born in Lisbon, Damásio was elected president of Benfica on 7 January 1994 with 87% of the votes, defeating candidate and friend José Capristano. Shortly after succeeding Jorge de Brito, Benfica won the Portuguese league title in football. Damásio then started a campaign to attract new members to the club to overcome financial difficulties, raising the number of associates from 83,000 to 150,000. Valentim dos Santos de Loureiro ComM (born 24 December 1938 in Calde, Viseu) is a Portuguese politician and former football chairman of Boavista and Portuguese League for Professional Football. The Taça da Liga (), known outside Portugal as Portuguese League Cup, is an annual club football competition organised by the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (LPFP) for teams competing in the top two tiers of Portuguese football – the Primeira Liga and Liga Portugal 2. Unlike Portugal's other domestic cup competition, the Taça de Portugal, the winners of the Taça da Liga do not qualify for European competitions. Pedro Proença Oliveira Alves García (; born 3 November 1970) is a Portuguese former football referee who has served as the president of the Portuguese Football Federation since February 2025. Proença refereed several notable matches domestically and internationally, including the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, Taça de Portugal finals, Taça da Liga finals, as well as the final of both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA European Championship in 2012, becoming the first referee to overview both finals of the main European competitions for clubs and national teams in the same year.
