Manuel Damásio
Manuel Damásio Soares Garcia (born 9 July 1940), known as Manuel Damásio, is a Portuguese businessman who served as the 30th president of sports club S.L. Benfica. Born in Lisbon, Damásio was elected president of Benfica on 7 January 1994 with 87% of the votes, defeating candidate and friend José Capristano. Shortly after succeeding Jorge de Brito, Benfica won the Portuguese league title in football. Damásio then started a campaign to attract new members to the club to overcome financial difficulties, raising the number of associates from 83,000 to 150,000. He also tried to lower the club's debt with Parmalat as a sponsor; however, it did not help much. Along with the help of Abílio Rodrigues and Gaspar Ramos, Damásio transformed Benfica's football department. His choice of football coaches was not fortunate: he signed Artur Jorge, Paulo Autuori, and Manuel José, with Mário Wilson serving as interim coach, thrice. Manuel António Couto Guimarães (born 25 August 1967), commonly known as Nelo, is a retired Portuguese footballer. On the left side of the field, he could appear as either a defender or a midfielder. Football career Born in Porto, Nelo grew in local Boavista FC's youth system, then went on to mainly represent its first team as a professional. After an unassuming season at Primeira Liga side S.L. Benfica, he returned to his first club in the 1995 summer, then represented another three teams in quick succession. Nelo retired in 2007 in amateur football, at the age of almost 40. João António de Araújo Vale e Azevedo (born 17 May 1957) is a Portuguese former lawyer who was the 31st president of sports club S.L. Benfica. In relation to his three-year club presidency, he was convicted of embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering. Osmar Donizete Cândido (born 24 October 1968, known as Donizete Pantera, is a Brazilian retired footballer, who played as a forward, and the assistant manager at CFZ do Rio. Paulo Autuori de Mello (born 25 August 1956), known as Paulo Autuori, is a Brazilian football executive and manager who is the current manager of Atlético Nacional. Early life A football fan since early childhood and a futsal player, Paulo Autuori had to give up his dream of becoming a professional footballer after contracting poliomyelitis in his teens. The disease left him with an atrophied leg and a permanent limp on his walk, which prevented him from playing.
