''Portrait of the Mozart Family'' is an oil painting of four members of the Mozart family created between late 1780 and early 1781 and traditionally attributed to Johann Nepomuk della Croce. The painting depicts in the foreground the siblings Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus and Maria Anna Mozart, Maria Anna "Marianne" Mozart together playing a fortepiano, and their father Leopold Mozart, Leopold holding a violin. In the background, the recently deceased mother Anna Maria Mozart, Anna Maria is depicted in a framed portrait alongside a sculpture of Apollo playing a lyre. The painting was considered by Marianne to have the most authentic portrait of her brother and has inspired further depictions of the artist. It is currently kept in the Tanzmeisterhaus Salzburg, Tanzmeisterhaus museum in Salzburg, Austria. Johann Nepomuk Della Croce
Johann Nepomuk della Croce (; 7 August 1736 – 4 March 1819) was an Austrian painter, known in Italy as Giovanni Nepomuceno della Croce (). He was active in both Germany and Trentino in a late-Baroque style, depicting portraits and religious subjects. Life and career Johann Nepomuk della Croce was born at Pressano, in Tyrol, in 1736. He studied under Lorenzoni, an Italian artist and after travelling in Italy, Germany, Hungary, and France, he settled at Burghausen. estimated that della Croce painted 5000 portraits and 200 historical pictures. There are many altar-pieces painted by him in the churches of Bavaria. Anton Walter
Gabriel Anton Walter (5 February 1752 – 11 April 1826) was a builder of pianos. The ''Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians'' describes him as "the most famous Viennese piano maker of his time".Latcham (2009) Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert all owned and played on Walter's pianos. Life Walter was born in Neuhausen auf den Fildern, Germany. The record of his marriage to a widow named Anna Elisabeth Schöffstoss in 1780 indicates that he had moved to Vienna by that time. His earlier surviving pianos are dated to this year. His piano business was evidently successful. In 1790 he was awarded the status of Imperial Royal Chamber Organ Builder and Instrument Maker. By 1800 he was employing about 20 workmen. In that year he was joined in the firm by his stepson Joseph Schöffstoss, and the pianos came to be labeled "Anton Walter und Sohn" ("and son"). Barbara Krafft
Maria Barbara Krafft (; 1 April 1764 – 28 September 1825) was an Austrian painter, best remembered today for her widely reproduced posthumous portrait of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Life and career She was born in Iglau (now Jihlava, in the Czech Republic) where her father, the Austrian Imperial court painter Johann Nepomuk Steiner, was working at the time. She was taught painting by her father and accompanied him to Vienna, where she exhibited her first painting in 1786 at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1789 she married the Viennese pharmacist Josef Krafft. Their son Johann August Krafft, born in 1792 and taught by his mother, later became a painter and lithographer. For various periods between 1794 and 1803 Krafft worked and travelled alone in Jihlava, Salzburg, and Prague, achieving increasing success primarily as a portrait painter, but also producing genre and religious works. Edward Speyer (14 May 1839 – 8 January 1934) was a German-born banker and patron of music in London. Biography Edward Speyer was born on 14 May 1839 in Frankfurt. His father was , a Jewish merchant from Frankfurt and amateur composer who was a friend of Carl Maria von Weber, Louis Spohr, Franz Liszt, Giacomo Meyerbeer, and Gioachino Rossini. Edward settled in London in 1859, and either became a naturalized subject in 1869 or 1885. In London, he became a distinguished patron of musical performances. Speyer's first wife was Helen Franziska Forsboom, with whom he had would have his first daughter Lalla Vandervelde. His second wife was Antonia Kufferath, a concert singer. Blasius Höfel (27 May 1792 – 17 September 1863) was an Austrian copper engraver. Life Born in Vienna, Höfel studied drawing and painting from 1805 at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien with Hubert Maurer. From 1807 he devoted himself primarily to chalcography. His most famous work is a portrait of Ludwig van Beethoven, with whom he also had personal contact.
