Portneuf County, Quebec
Portneuf County (, ) is a historic county in Quebec, Canada west of Quebec City on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada. The county seat was Cap-Santé. Previously named Hampshire County (after Hampshire, England) formed in 1792 at the end of the French Regime from the former Montreal District and as a constituent riding for the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada before being renamed Portneuf County by a law of the province of Lower Canada (9 George IV ch. LXXII) in 1829. It was bounded on the west by Champlain County on the northeast by Quebec County, and on the south by Lotbiniere County. Portneuf County consisted of six former seigneuries. In the early 1980s, Quebec abolished its counties and most of Portneuf County became the Portneuf Regional County Municipality. Pont-Rouge, Quebec
Pont-Rouge (, ) is a Canadian city along the Jacques-Cartier River in southern Quebec, Canada. In the Canada 2021 Census the population was 10,121 inhabitants. History The first efforts to colonise the area came around 1769. On April 15, 1867, the archbishop of Quebec, Charles-François Baillargeon, founded the parish of Sainte-Jeanne-de-Neuville from portions of Cap-Santé, Saint-Basile, and Neuville. After the separation of the parish in two in 1911 (the village of Pont-Rouge and the parish of Sainte-Jeanne-de-Pont-Rouge), the new City of Pont-Rouge was established when these two municipalities merged on January 3, 1996. Transportation had considerable influence on the development of the parish, mainly the two bridges and the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway bridge in 1874. Sainte-Christine-d'Auvergne (; Municipality), formerly Sainte-Catherine (Parish Municipality), is located along the banks of the Sainte-Anne River (Les Chenaux), Sainte-Anne River, in the Capitale-Nationale region, Portneuf Regional County Municipality, Portneuf RCM, Quebec, Canada. Saint-Casimir is a municipality of about 1800 people in the Portneuf Regional County Municipality in the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the Sainte-Anne River, about southwest of Quebec City and northeast of Trois-Rivières. It was founded in 1836 by people who came from Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, Quebec, Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade following to the east along the Sainte-Anne. The name of Saint-Casimir was given in honour of Mr. Casimir Déry, a notary who paid for the construction of the church, which is in the top 10 of the most beautiful churches in the province of Québec. Portneuf () is a municipality in the Portneuf Regional County Municipality, in the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the Saint Lawrence River, between Quebec City and Trois-Rivières. The Portneuf River runs on the east side of the town centre. The town of Portneuf is named after a seignory that was founded in 1636, and first settled in 1640. The municipal territory consists of 2 non-contiguous areas, separated by the municipality of Sainte-Christine-d'Auvergne. The smaller northern portion is undeveloped, whereas the southern piece is the main inhabited part with the population centres of Portneuf (south of Autoroute 40), and the adjacent Notre-Dame-de-Portneuf, north of A-40. Saint-Raymond (), also called Saint-Raymond de Portneuf (), is a city in Quebec, Canada, located about north-west of Quebec City. It is the largest city in population and area of the Portneuf Regional County Municipality. History First settlements The seigniory of Bourg-Louis, which includes the territory of Saint-Raymond, was initially occupied by the Wyandot people, Huron. Their round hut was only a few feet away from the current location of the presbytery.
