Portimão Global Ocean Race
The Global Ocean Race (GOR, previously known as ''Portimão Global Ocean Race'') is a yachting race for Class40 yachts which was first held in 2008–09. The second edition took place in 2011–12 and the third edition was scheduled to start in September 2015. The race was created for single- and doublehanded yachts (Category "Singlehand/Class 40" and “Doublehanded/Class 40") and small budgets. The two former professional yachtsmen Josh Hall and Brian Hancock were the initiators of the race. The GOR is the first Class-40-race leading through the Southern Ocean (Pacific) and around Cape Horn. Class40
Class40 is a class of monohull sailboat and a yacht primarily used for short handed offshore and coastal racing. The class is administered by International Class40 Association which is recognised by the World Sailing. Background In 2004 former Vendee Globe and Whitbread competitor, Patrice Carpentier, brought together designers, builders and sailors to formulate a new accessible class of shorthanded offshore racing boats. Now with more than 160 boats, the Class has become the most successful offshore racing class. The class is not to be confused with the Open 40 which in many ways led the way to this class. Ocean Globe Race
The Ocean Globe Race was the 50th-anniversary celebration of the original Whitbread Round the World Race, the first fully crewed round-the-world race in 1973. It was founded by Australian adventurer and circumnavigator, Don McIntyre. Except for safety equipment, no modern technology was allowed. The Ocean Globe Race set sail with 14 teams on September 10, 2023, from Ocean Village in Southampton (UK), to circumnavigate the globe with 3 stopovers: Cape Town (South Africa), Auckland (New Zealand), and rounding Cape Horn, Punta del Este (Uruguay), before returning to Cowes (UK) in April 2024. Volvo Ocean Race
The Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world, held every three or four years since 1973. Originally named the Whitbread Round the World Race after its initiating sponsor, British brewing company Whitbread, in 2001 it became the Volvo Ocean Race after Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Group, Volvo took up the sponsorship, and in 2019 it was renamed The Ocean Race. Each of the entries has a sailing crew who race day and night for more than 20 days at a time on some of the legs. Barcelona World Race
The Barcelona World Race is a non-stop, round-the-world yacht race for crews of two, sailed on Open 60 IMOCA monohull boats. Following the Clipper route, it starts and finishes in Barcelona, and is organised by the Barcelona Ocean Sailing Foundation (FNOB). The inaugural race, contested in 2007–08 by nine boats, was won by Jean-Pierre Dick and Damian Foxall on the boat ''Paprec-Virbac 2'' in a time of 92 days.
