The Port of Merca ( Somali: ''Dekada Marka'', Italian: ''Porto di Merca'') also known as Merca Port, is the official seaport of Merca, situated in southeastern Somalia. It is classified as a jetty class port. It has a harbour as well as a pier which juts into the Somali Sea. History Originally -and for many centuries- there were only fishing activities in the beach of the small coastal village now called Merca. Merca (, ) is the capital city of the Lower Shebelle province of Somalia, a historic port city in the region. It is located approximately to the southwest of the nation's capital Mogadishu. Genale
Genale was a town founded by Italian colonists in the southeastern Lower Shabelle region of Italian Somaliland. It is now called Janale. History Genale was created in 1924 by a group of Italian settlers from the Italian city of Torino, with the supervision of the Italian governor of the colony. Near the Genale of the colonists and separated by the Shebelle river, soon grew a bigger city populated by Somalis (working as cheap labor force in the plantations): the actual Janale. After World War II remained only Janaale, while Genale disappeared when the defeated Italians moved away from Somalia. In 1924, indeed it was started the Italian colonization of the area of Genale, in southern Somalia, forming a group of small and medium-sized farms. The Port of Mogadishu, ( Somali: ''Dekada Muqdisho'', Italian: ''Porto di Mogadiscio'') also known as the Mogadishu International Port, is the official seaport of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Classified as a major class port, it is the largest harbour in the country. Historical overview Since the Roman Empire, a commercial port called Sarapion existed in what is now modern Mogadishu. African Union Mission To Somalia
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was a Multinational force formed by the African Union. The operation deployed to Somalia soon after the Islamic Courts Union was deposed by troops from Ethiopia during a large scale invasion in late 2006. The missions primary objective was to maintain the regime change between the ICU and the newly installed Transitional Federal Government, implement a national security plan and train the TFG security forces. As part of its duties, AMISOM later supported the Federal Government of Somalia in its war against Al-Shabaab. AMISOM was the most deadly peacekeeping operation in the post-war era. The Somali National Army () are the ground forces component of the Somali Armed Forces. Villaggio Duca degli Abruzzi (often called "Villabruzzi" in Italian) was a village that was founded as an agricultural settlement in Italian Somalia. Data The Duca degli Abruzzi, a senior member of the Italian Royal Family, created the village in 1920 and raised funds for a number of development projects in this agricultural place, including roads, dams, schools, hospitals, a church and a mosque. He died in the village on 18 March 1933. The Mogadishu-Villabruzzi Railway was initially built for the surrounding area of Mogadishu (''Mogadiscio'' in Italian), after World War I in 1914.
