Porsche Mission X
The Porsche Mission X is an electric concept sports car manufactured by Porsche. It was presented in June 2023 and is set to be the successor of the Porsche 918 Spyder when it reaches production in 2025. History The Mission X was presented in the preamble to the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, on 8 June 2023 on the occasion of the exhibition "75 years of Porsche Sports Cars" at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, in Stuttgart, Germany. It thus celebrates the 75th anniversary of the German brand with the release of the Porsche 356 roadster on 8 June 1948. Concept Car
A concept car (also known as a concept vehicle, show vehicle or prototype) is a car made to showcase new styling and/or new technology. They are often exhibited at motor shows to gauge customer reaction to new and radical designs which may or may not be mass-produced. General Motors designer Harley Earl is generally credited with inventing the concept car, and did much to popularize it through its traveling Motorama shows of the 1950s. Concept cars never go into production directly. In modern times all would have to undergo many changes before the design is finalized for the sake of practicality, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost. A grand tourer (GT) is a type of car that is designed for high speed and long-distance driving, due to a combination of performance and luxury attributes. The most common format is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement. Grand tourers are most often the coupé derivative of luxury saloons or sedans. Porsche 356
The Porsche 356 is a sports car that was first produced by Austrian company Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH (1948–1949), and then by German company Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH (1950–1965). It was Porsche's first production automobile. Earlier cars designed by the Austrian company include Cisitalia Grand Prix race car, the Volkswagen Beetle, and Auto Union Grand Prix cars. The 356 is a lightweight and nimble-handling, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive, two-door available both in hardtop coupé and open configurations. Engineering innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsports success and popularity. Production started in 1948 at Gmünd, Austria, where Porsche built approximately 50 cars. Michael Mauer
Michael Mauer (born 1962) is a German automobile designer. He is the Chief Designer at Porsche. He has previously worked for Mercedes-Benz and Saab. Career Mauer studied design from 1982 to 1986 at the Hochschule Pforzheim. His first job after graduating was with Mercedes-Benz in Sindelfingen. In 1989 he was appointed Design Project Leader for the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. In 1995 he was promoted to Head of Department and took responsibility for the new A-Class, SLK and SL models. In 1998 Mauer moved to the Tokyo design studio as general manager. A year later, he moved back to Europe and was in charge of design at Smart. In June 2000 he left Mercedes to join General Motors and worked for Saab as Executive Director Design. In 2003 he became responsible for Advanced Design at General Motors Europe. Scissor doors (also called flap doors, wing doors, beetle-wing doors, turtle doors, switchblade doors, swing-up doors, upswing doors, Lamborghini doors, and Lambo doors) are automobile doors that rotate vertically at a fixed hinge at the front of the door, rather than outward as with a conventional door. History The first vehicle to feature scissor doors was the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car, designed by Bertone's Marcello Gandini.
