Pornuse
Pornuse is a village in Mulgi Parish, Viljandi County in southern Estonia. It is located just south of Halliste, the former centre of the abolished Halliste Parish, and about 5 km northeast of Abja-Paluoja town. As of the 2011 census, the village's population was 22. Halliste Holy Anna Church and Halliste Primary School are located in the territory of Pornuse, on the northern side where neighbouring Halliste. The Halliste cemetery is near the church and the school (administratively in Kulla). The Halliste River passes Pornuse on its southern side. Pornuse is the location of Pornuse (''Alt-Bornhusen'') and Kaubi (Uue-Pornuse, ''Neu-Bornhusen'') manors. The first manor was established in 1542 and in 1678 it was divided. Friedrich Akel
Friedrich Karl Akel ( in Kaubi (now Pornuse) village, Mulgi Parish – 3 July 1941 in Tallinn) was an Estonian diplomat and politician who served as State Elder of Estonia in 1924. Early years Akel was born in Kaubi village (now Pornuse) in Mulgi Parish. He attended the Alexander Gymnasium in Tartu, and studied in the department of medicine of the University of Tartu in 1892–1897. After graduating, he worked as an assistant at the Tartu University Clinic before being employed as a doctor at Reimers ophthalmology clinic in Riga in 1898. The following year, he started working as a doctor in the Ujazdów military hospital in Warsaw. In 1901, he continued his studies in Berlin, Prague and Leipzig. After briefly returning as a doctor at Reimers ophthalmology clinic, Akel practiced a private ophthalmologist in Tallinn between 1902 and 1912, with an exception for 1904–1905, when he served as an army physician in the Russo-Japanese war. Halliste Parish
Halliste Parish () was a rural municipality of Estonia, in Viljandi County. In 2009, it had a population of 1,808 (as of 1 January 2009) and an area of 267.09 km². After the municipal elections held on 15 October 2017, Halliste Parish was merged with Abja and Karksi parishes and the town of Mõisaküla to form a new Mulgi Parish. Abja-Paluoja
Abja-Paluoja is a town in Mulgi Parish, Viljandi County, in southern Estonia. Abja-Paluoja got the town status and became a separate urban municipality in 1993. History First documented records of the Abja manor and village date from 1457 (''Abbalis et Meitzekull''). From 1897 to 1973, the railway line passed through Abja-Paluoja, and there was a railway station in the town. In 1913, a flax factory was established near Abja-Paluoja because flax cultivation had developed in the area. The Abja Gymnasium (secondary school) was opened in 1940. Abja-Paluoja was the centre of Abja raion from 1950 to 1962. Abja-Paluoja gained town rights and became a separate urban municipality in 1993.
