Popstars (New Zealand TV Series)
''Popstars'' is a New Zealand reality documentary television show. The first edition aired on TVNZ in 1999 and showed the establishment of a five-piece girl group, TrueBliss. The series was the origin of the ''Popstars'' reality TV series format, which went on to be sold to over 50 countries. A reboot of ''Popstars'' screened in 2021. Format Unlike the modern '' Idol'' or ''The X Factor'' television franchises — which are presented as singing contests with public votes — the original 1999 New Zealand series of ''Popstars'' was presented as a documentary. It looked at the formation of a modern pop group from the auditions through to the first released single. TVNZ 2 () is the second New Zealand television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It targets a younger audience than its sister channel, TVNZ 1. TVNZ 2's line up consists of dramas, comedies, and reality TV shows. A small number are produced in New Zealand which are either of a comedic, soap opera or reality nature, with rest of the line-up taken from international catalogues. The music of New Zealand has been influenced by a number of traditions, including Māori music, the music introduced by European settlers during the nineteenth century, and a variety of styles imported during the twentieth century, including blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, reggae, and hip hop, with many of these genres given a unique New Zealand interpretation. Jeremy Redmore is a New Zealand musician, singer-songwriter, producer and author. In his early career he rose to fame as the main creative force behind the band Midnight Youth. Since then he has released two albums as a solo artist as well as a music-themed children's picture book. Background Redmore was born in Auckland before receiving his education at Tauranga Boys' College and the University of Auckland.
