Popole Misenga (born 25 February 1992) is a judoka originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who was selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete for the Refugee Olympic Team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Personal life Misenga was born on 25 February 1992. He is from the Bukavu area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an area severely affected by the Second Congo War. After his mother was murdered when he was nine years old, he fled to a nearby rainforest and wandered for a week, before being rescued and taken to a home in Kinshasa. He sought political asylum in Brazil after travelling there to compete in the 2013 World Judo Championships along with fellow judoka Yolande Mabika. The pair claimed that their coaches confined them in their hotel room while leaving with their money, passports and meal tickets. Bukavu
Bukavu is a city in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), lying at the extreme south-western edge of Lake Kivu, west of Cyangugu in Rwanda, and separated from it by the outlet of the Ruzizi River. Gwak Dong-han (; ; born 20 April 1992) is a South Korean judoka. He won the gold medal in the 90 kg event at the 2015 World Judo Championships. Avtar Singh (born 3 April 1992) is an Indian judoka who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Personal life Singh was born on 3 April 1992 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India. Whilst growing up in Kothe Ghurala village, he spent time working on his parents farm. He works as an assistant sub inspector for the Punjab Police. Judo He represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.
