"Pop Muzik" is a 1979 song by M, a project by English musician Robin Scott, from his debut studio album '' New York • London • Paris • Munich''. The song was accompanied by a well-received music video (directed by Brian Grant) showing Scott as a DJ behind an exaggerated turntable setup, at times flanked by two female models who sang and danced in a robotic manner. The video also featured Scott's then-partner Brigit Novik, who provided the backup vocals for the track. "M Factor", the song's B-side, featured in two different versions. The initial UK and European release featured the original cut of the song, but a slightly remixed version was released in the US and Canada. "Pop Muzik" reached number 1 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, the Australian ARIA Singles Chart, and number 2 in the UK Singles Chart. M are an English new wave and synth-pop music project that formed in 1978 in London, England by Robin Scott. M is most known for the 1979 hit " Pop Muzik", which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in May 1979, and number one in the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart on 3 November 1979. Musicians who contributed to M at one time or another included Wally Badarou, Mark King, Phil Gould and Gary Barnacle of Level 42. Band history One man band Robin Scott first used the pseudonym M in 1978, when he released the single "Moderne Man". David Richards (record Producer)
David Richards (1956 – 20 December 2013) was an English record producer, engineer and musician. He was based in Switzerland in the Mountain Studios in Montreux, owned by the rock band Queen, and in Attalens, where he engineered and co-produced many albums by Queen, David Bowie and other artists. Richards also played keyboards on some records and dealt with live music recording in such events as Montreux Jazz Festival. Richards died on 20 December 2013 after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. Queen (band)
Queen are a British Rock music, rock band formed in London in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), and Roger Taylor (Queen drummer), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), later joined by John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and Heavy metal music, heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Gary Barnacle
Gary Barnacle (born 1959) is an English saxophonist, flautist, brass instrument arranger, composer, and producer. Barnacle is primarily noted for his session work and live work, including various Prince's Trust concerts at Wembley Arena, the Royal Albert Hall and the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. He performed at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute at Wembley Stadium in 1988, and appeared on television and in music videos during the 1980s and 1990s with many popular music acts. He was also in an electropop duo called Leisure Process from 1982 to 1983 with ex- Positive Noise singer Ross Middleton. Level 42 are an English jazz-funk band formed on the Isle of Wight in 1979. They had a number of UK and worldwide hits during the 1980s and 1990s. Their highest-charting single in the UK was " Lessons in Love", which reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, upon its release in 1986. Phil Gould (musician)
Philip Gabriel Gould (born 28 February 1957) is a British drummer, songwriter and singer from the Isle of Wight in southern England. He founded the band Level 42 with Mark King. Career Gould was born in Hong Kong, and studied percussion at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he met keyboardist Mike Lindup. Gould's first foray into the charts came with pop group M, drumming on their single " Pop Muzik", a number one single in the United States, and No. 2 hit in the UK. Gould also appeared on ''Top of the Pops'' with Roxy Music for their performance of " More Than This" as well as the promo video for the song. Together with Mike Lindup, Mark King and Gould's guitarist brother Boon, he formed Level 42 and had several major hits, writing many of the lyrics and co-writing several songs. Reginald 'John' Lewis was a Canadian-born British electronic music and experimental composer and musician who worked on multiple projects during the 1970s and 1980s. Early life Lewis was born in the town of Davidson, Saskatchewan, Canada, on the 26th July 1944. He was the youngest of two boys, with his brother David five years his senior, born to parents David Reginald Lewis and Minnie Anne Bigg. Lewis studied for a bachelor in Fine Art - Music at St. Stephens College at the University of Alberta in the mid-1960s. During this time, Lewis became the prize composition student of associate professor Violet Archer, a renowned Canadian composer. Wally Badarou
Waliou Jacques Daniel Isheola "Wally" Badarou (born 22 March 1955) is a French musician. Born in France with ancestry from Benin, West Africa, Badarou is known for his close association with the English group Level 42, and for his prolific work as a session musician with a wide variety of performers from around the world. Biography Badarou was the long-time associate of the British band Level 42, contributing on keyboards, synthesizers and programming. He has co-written and performed on a number of the band's tracks since their recording début in 1980, later co-producing them. "Bright Eyes" is a song written by British songwriter Mike Batt and performed by Art Garfunkel. It was written for the soundtrack of the 1978 British animated adventure drama film ''Watership Down''. The accompaniment was re-orchestrated for the film from its original form as a pop song.
