PopGun Presents
PopGun Presents was an events production/promotion, music curation and venue management collective based in Brooklyn, NY. It was founded in 2008 by Rami Haykal-Manning (née Haykal) and Jake Rosenthal. Formation In 2008, Haykal-Manning and Rosenthal started Popgun Booking, collaborating with the independent label Cantora Records on a residency at The Delancey in the Lower East Side of Manhattan called Loose Nukes. Das Racist, Savoir Adore, and Free Blood and were some of the bands that played during this period. PopGun also acted as booking agents for some emerging artists including Anamanaguchi, Savoire Adore, Darwin Deez, Mon Khmer and others. Glasslands Gallery
Glasslands Gallery (or simply Glasslands) was a music venue, dance club, and art space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Glasslands was founded by Brooke Baxter and Rolyn Hu in 2006, as a relocation of Baxter's earlier art space in the same building, Glass House Gallery. Hu and Baxter held the lease on the Glasslands space until 2012 when they made a turn-key sale to Rami Haykal and Jake Rosenthal of PopGun presents, who had been managing bookings since 2009, and day-to-day operations since 2010. PopGun owned the business and lease for two years until the venue was displaced to be converted into Vice Media‘s office headquarters. Elsewhere (music Venue)
Elsewhere is a music venue in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It opened on October 31, 2017. It has five musical performance spaces. The venue is owned by the same individuals who owned Glasslands Gallery when it closed in 2014. Elsewhere is in a renovated warehouse near the Jefferson Street station. Cantora Records
Cantora Records is a Brooklyn-based independent record label, most notable for signing the psychedelic pop band MGMT and issuing the band's first commercial release, '' Time to Pretend''. History Cantora Records was formed in 2005 by Jesse Israel and Will Griggs, then sophomores and roommates at NYU, and Nick Panama. Will Griggs is the son of former executive editor of ''The New York Times'' Jill Abramson. Prior to the creation of the label, Jesse Israel and Will Griggs approached Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden and offered to manage their band, then known as The Management. Das Racist was an American alternative hip hop group based in Brooklyn, composed of MCs Heems and Kool A.D. and hype man Ashok Kondabolu (a.k.a. Dapwell or Dap). Anamanaguchi
Anamanaguchi is an American chiptune-based pop and rock band from New York City. The band has four members: lead songwriters and guitarists Peter Berkman and Ary Warnaar, bassist James DeVito, and drummer Luke Silas. Anamanaguchi combines digital electronic sounds such as those seen in chiptune and bitpop with traditional band instrumentation. As with other chiptune artists, they have created music using video game hardware from the mid- to late 1980s: namely a Nintendo Entertainment System, NES and a Game Boy. Grime Music
Grime is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that emerged in London in the early 2000s.
