Edwin Poots
Edwin Poots (born 27 May 1965) is a British politician from Northern Ireland, serving as Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly since February 2024. He served as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) from May to June 2021. He was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1998. In 2007, First Minister Ian Paisley appointed Poots to the Northern Ireland Executive as Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure. Poots left office after Peter Robinson became First Minister in 2008. In 2009, Poots returned to the Executive as Minister of the Environment, before being promoted to Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety in 2011. He was removed as Health Minister in 2014. In January 2020, he was reappointed to the Executive by First Minister Arlene Foster as Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs, a position that he held until October 2022. Alexander Moinet Poots is an arts and cultural leader who has built major new organizations from the ground up and who has inspired established organizations to reshape their familiar approaches into more innovative, popular and culturally democratic programs. Tysson Poots (born January 12, 1988) is an American former professional football wide receiver. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. Early life Poots played high school football at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada. He was a two-time All-Statewide receiver. He finished his career with a total 2,014 receiving yards, 270 tackles, 19 sacks and 8 interceptions. Poots also lettered in basketball & nominee of McDonald's All-American. College career Poots had a career total of 43 touchdowns and 3,970 yards. He was named as a Great West Conference all conference receiver in three of his four seasons with the Thunderbirds. Charles Boucher "Charlie" Poots (1929 – 23 April 2020) was a Northern Irish unionist politician and farmer, known for being one of the founding members of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Political career Poots joined Ian Paisley's Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster, acting as Treasurer of the Hillsborough church. He also joined the Protestant Unionist Party (PUP), standing unsuccessfully for the group in Iveagh at the 1969 Northern Ireland general election. The PUP soon reformed as the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), and Poots was elected to Lisburn Borough Council at the 1973 local elections. He also won a seat in North Down at the 1973 Northern Ireland Assembly election.William D.
