The Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers () was a dicastery of the Roman Curia charged with promoting dialogue between the Catholic Church and non-believers. Its original designation as "Secretariat" was changed to "Pontifical Council" on 30 June 1988. The was merged into the Pontifical Council for Culture in 1993. History Cardinal Franz König was appointed by the Pope as the first president of the Secretariat with Cardinal Avery Dulles as the consultor of the Secretariat. An American branch was set up and headed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop of Pittsburgh John Wright (cardinal), John Wright. However, Dulles never attended any Secretariat meetings in Rome due to feeling he would not contribute much. Bishop Wright also did not arrange any meetings with non-believers leading to the American branch being unsuccessful. Pontifical Council For Culture
The Pontifical Council for Culture () was a dicastery of the Roman Curia charged with fostering the relationship of the Catholic Church with different cultures. It was erected by Pope John Paul II on 20 May 1982 and in 1993 he merged the Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers, which had operated independently since 1965 into it. When the Apostolic constitution '' Praedicate evangelium'' promulgated by Pope Francis took effect on 5 June 2022, the Pontifical Council for Culture was merged with the Congregation for Catholic Education to create the new Dicastery for Culture and Education.
