Ruslan Ponomariov
Ruslan Olehovych Ponomariov (; born 11 October 1983) is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster. He was FIDE World Chess Champion from 2002 to 2004 and is the youngest holder of the title at the age of 18 years and 104 days, though the title was split at the time. He won the Ukrainian Chess Championship in 2011. He was runner-up in the Chess World Cup 2005 and Chess World Cup 2009, and reached the semi-finals in 2011 and the quarterfinals in 2007. Early career Ponomariov was born in Horlivka in Ukraine. He was taught to play chess by his father at the age of 5. Oleksandr Valeriyovych Ponomariov (; born August 9, 1973) is a Ukrainian singer. He has been awarded the country's "Singer of the Year" seven times. Early life and education Ponomariov was born in Khmelnitskiy, Ukrainian SSR (now Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine). One of his early interests was boxing. When his eyesight started to deteriorate he was forbidden to fight by his doctor. While he had always enjoyed singing, he never thought that music could be his main occupation. Despite this, he applied to a music college where he encountered one drawback: he could not read music. The college professors accepted him on the basis of his excellent singing voice and allowed him to stay on the condition that he master the school's seven-year curriculum in the space of one year. Oleksandr Ponomariov (; ; 23 April 1918 – 7 June 1973) was a Soviet football player and manager. Career Ponomarev was born in Horlivka near Donetsk, Ukrainian People's Republic. As a player, in the course of his career, he won the Soviet Cup in 1949 with Torpedo Moscow, and scored 152 goals in the Soviet Top League. He was the top scorer of the league in 1946. He spent the last two seasons of his playing career in Shakhter Stalino where he captained the team to the third place in the Soviet Top League in 1951, their highest league finish thus far. In 1953 he started his manager career in Shakhter Stalino. He helped the club win the Soviet First League in 1954 (earning them promotion back to the top league). Ilya Vladimirovich Ponomarev (, ; born 6 August 1975) is a Russian people, Russian-Ukrainian people, Ukrainian politician who was a member of the Russian State Duma from 2007 to 2016. He was the only member of the State Duma not to vote in favour of the Russian gay propaganda law (he abstained) and to vote against Russia's Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, annexation of Crimea in March 2014. In 2015, while in the United States, Ponomarev was formally charged in Russia with embezzlement, which he called politically motivated. Lev Aleksandrovich Ponomaryov (, 2 September 1941) is a Russian political and civil activist. He is an executive director of the all-Russian movement "For Human Rights." He is a member of the Federal Political Council of Solidarnost, and was deputy to the State Duma in its first period. Education and early career Ponomaryov graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MFTI) in 1965 and from the doctorate program of the same institute in 1968, becoming a doctor of physics and mathematics. He worked in the Theoretical and Experimental Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and simultaneously taught at MFTI in the general physics department. Mikhail Sergeyevich Ponomaryov (; 15 December 1920 – 26 September 2006) was a Soviet fighter pilot who flew with the Polish Air Force during World War II and later became a flying ace during the Korean war, with 10 to 14 victories. Early life Ponomaryov was born on 15 December 1920 to a Russian peasant family in the village of Alexeyevka. After completing his ninth grade of school in 1937 he worked at a mine in Karaganda and trained at the local aeroclub, which he graduated from in 1939. He then entered the military in March 1940 and went on to graduate from a school for aviation specialists in November, after which he was assigned to the 136th High-speed Bomber Regiment as a radio operator and gunner. Arkady Nikolaevich Ponomarev (; born 16 May 1956, in Voronezh) is a Russian political figure, entrepreneur, and a deputy of the 8th State Duma. In 2009, he was granted a Doctor of Sciences in Technical Sciences degree After graduating from the university, Ponomarev started working at construction sites in Tver Oblast. From 1984 to 1987, he was the chief engineer of the Rossosh Dairy Plant. He left the position to become the chief engineer and the head of the dairy plant Voronezhsky. Hankou, alternately romanized as Hankow (), was one of the three towns (the other two were Wuchang and Hanyang) merged to become modern-day Wuhan city, the capital of the Hubei province, China.
