Ponce YMCA Building
The Ponce YMCA Building is a historic structure located in the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. It is located at 7843 Calle Nazaret, Urbanizacion Santa Maria. The structure was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on 4 June 2012. History The history of the Ponce YMCA dates back to 1917 when the YMCA was organized in San Juan. In 1919 efforts and surveys were made to start YMCA work in Ponce. In 1934, Manuel Bueno became General Secretary of the Puerto Rico YMCA, the first native Puerto Rican to hold the post. Hurricanes in September 1928 and again in 1931, prevented the Ponce work to move forward once more, as money that had been obtained for the International YMCA Committee had to be used by the San Juan YMCA to help towards repairs to the San Juan YMCA building after these storms. Canas Urbano
Canas Urbano is one of the 31 barrio of the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Along with Machuelo Abajo, Magueyes Urbano, Portugués Urbano, and San Antón, Canas Urbano is one of the municipality's five originally rural barrios that are now also part of the urban zone of the city of Ponce. The name of this barrio is of native indigenous origin. It was created in 1953. Summer Camp
A summer camp or sleepaway camp is a supervised program for children conducted during the summer summer vacation, months in some countries. Children and adolescents who attend summer camp are known as ''campers''. La Perla Del Sur
''La Perla del Sur'' is a weekly regional Spanish-language newspaper based in Ponce, Puerto Rico. It is distributed in nine towns in southern Puerto Rico and has a circulation of 75,000. It also had an Internet portal where the entire printed version of the paper could be accessed. It was founded in 1983. History The newspaper was founded in Ponce in 1983 by Juan Nogueras de la Cruz with a crew of six employees. It was first published every other week, had 32 pages and a circulation of 40,000 copies. At first it circulated only in Ponce and Juana Diaz, but a year after its foundation it started circulating also in the towns of Santa Isabel, Coamo, Guayanilla, Peñuelas and Yauco. In its beginnings the paper was printed by a third party, but starting on 2 February 1993, the paper started publishing at Juno Printing, a wholly owned subsidiary of ''La Perla del Sur.''
