Polyphonic Size
Polyphonic Size is a Belgian new wave band founded in 1979 in Brussels by Roger-Marc Vande Voorde. Mixing electric guitars and synthesizers with French and English lyrics (and sometimes German or Japanese lyrics), most of Polyphonic Size records were produced by Jean-Jacques Burnel, from The Stranglers. History 1979-1984 The first Polyphonic Size record, Algorhythmic EP, was released in December 1979, on Sandwich Records, a new independent record label founded by Michel Lambot. After a second EP (Pragmatic Songs), Roger-Marc got in touch with Jean-Jacques Burnel, who offered to produce the next single, Nagasaki Mon Amour. This first musical collaboration was followed by many others, including an outrageous and robotic cover of the Rolling Stones' classic, Mother's Little Helper. Minimal Wave Records
Minimal Wave Records is a New York City-based independent record label founded by Veronica Vasicka in 2005. The label was launched "to create a network for synth wave enthusiasts and promote 80s electronic music via an online archive and vinyl releases. The label specializes in high-quality vinyl pressings of minimal synth and new wave artists worldwide." Vasicka also curates Minimal Wave, a weekly Internet radio show broadcast on East Village Radio, for which she was the original director of programming. The weekly show was founded as Minimal-Electronik Plus, and was later renamed. Through vanity Web searches, artists discovered that selections from their cassette-only releases had been played on the show. Taxi Girl
Taxi Girl were a French new wave band, adopting the New Romantic aesthetics of the time, such as clashing red and black clothing, synthesizer-led songs, and taking influence from mythology and literature. The group existed between 1978 and 1986, producing 5 mini- albums, and one full-length album, ''Seppuku''. Their early success is attributed to two singles, "Mannequin" in 1979 and "Cherchez le garçon" in 1980. Their music was said to capture the energy of The Stooges, mixed with the retro-futuristic soundscapes of Kraftwerk. Their most successful album was ''Seppuku'', produced by Jean-Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers; Jet Black drummer of The Stranglers, provided percussion, stepping in after the death of Pierre Wolfsohn. Daniel Rozoum (20 May 1959 – 28 February 2013), known as Daniel Darc, was a French singer, who achieved success with his band Taxi Girl (together with Mirwais Ahmadzaï) between 1978 and 1986, and also as a solo artist. After Taxi Girl was disbanded in 1986, he continued a solo career, releasing ''Sous influence divine'' in 1987. Produced by Jacno, this included a cover version of "Comment te dire adieu", a song with lyrics by Serge Gainsbourg that had been popularized by Françoise Hardy. In 1994 he released ''Nijinsky'', followed by two albums in cooperation with composer, director and producer Frédéric Lo: ''Crève cœur'' in 2004 and then ''Amours suprêmes'' in 2008, with appearances by Alain Bashung, Robert Wyatt, Morgane (singer of Cocoon) and Steve Nieve. Michel Polnareff (born 3 July 1944, Nérac, Lot-et-Garonne, France) is a French singer-songwriter, who was popular in France from the mid-1960s until the early 1990s with his penultimate original album, ''Kāma-Sūtra''. Nigel Gray (1947 – 30 July 2016) was an English record producer. His album credits include '' Outlandos d'Amour'' (1978), '' Reggatta de Blanc'' (1979), and ''Zenyatta Mondatta'' (1980) for the Police, ''Kaleidoscope'' (1980) and '' Juju'' (1981) for Siouxsie and the Banshees, as well as five albums for Godley & Creme. ''Un Jour Parfait'' (French for "a perfect day") is the second solo album by the Stranglers' bassist Jean-Jacques Burnel, released on 23 September 1988 by Epic Records. The album was aimed at the French market and its release limited to certain territories, but was available in the UK as an import. All songs were written in French, except "Garden of Eden". Background In a 1992 interview, Burnel explained: "with this I wanted to do something with French sounds and sensibilities". Le Printemps de Bourges is an annual music festival that is held in Bourges, France, over the course of five days. It is now a major event in France and Europe. History The festival was created in 1977 (by , , and ). With its span of 35 years, its history reflects musical trends and evolution over time. Every springtime, thousands of spectators come from all parts of France and foreign countries to see an eclectic variety of concerts. Marquee Club
The Marquee Club was a music venue first located at 165 Oxford Street in London, when it opened in 1958 with a range of jazz and skiffle acts. Its most famous period was from 1964 to 1988 at 90 Wardour Street in Soho, and it finally closed when at 105 Charing Cross Road in 1996, although the name has been revived unsuccessfully three times in the 21st century.
