Pollokshaws F.C. (1876)
Pollokshaws Football Club was an association football club from the village of Pollokshaws, at the time outside Glasgow, in Renfrewshire, which twice entered the Scottish Cup. History The club was founded in 1876. The earliest recorded match for the club was a 2–0 defeat to Thornliebank in October that year. In its first season it won and lost 6 matches each, and drew 3 more, and off the back of that record joined the Scottish Football Association in August 1877. Its only senior match, in the first round of the 1877–78 Scottish Cup, was not completed. At home to Renfrew, Pollokshaws had gone 2–0 down, when its players walked off in protest at a refereeing decision. The match was never re-played and Renfrew was put into the second round. The club did enter the 1878–79 Scottish Cup but, after it was drawn at Port Glasgow, secretary James Stewart notified the Scottish Football Association that it had been dissolved. 1878–79 Scottish Cup
The 1878–79 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the sixth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Defending champions Vale of Leven met Rangers in the final but, after a 1–1 draw in the original match on 19 April 1879, the replay was scratched and Vale of Leven were awarded the cup. Rangers objected to a goal being disallowed in the original match and refused to play the replay. This was the second consecutive season that more than 100 teams entered the competition with a record 125 clubs competing after Pollokshaws Athletic withdrew before the competition began. Format As with the previous competitions, the sixth edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament. Pollokshaws
Pollokshaws ( sco, Powkshaws) is an area on the South side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is bordered by the residential neighbourhoods of Auldhouse to the east, Eastwood and Hillpark to the south and Shawlands to the north, with the Glasgow South Western Line railway and the open lands of Pollok Country Park to the west. The White Cart Water flows through the area. The housing stock consists of some sandstone tenement housing, modern brick tenement-style buildings, low-rise social housing and high rise/multi-storey tower blocks. Previously eight tower blocks stood in an area known as the Shawbridge Corridor; the last of these blocks was demolished in March 2016. Four other tower blocks remain, near Pollokshaws East railway station. According to the 2001 Census, Pollokshaws had a population of 4,295.
