Pollapönk
Pollapönk are an Icelandic punk-inflected children's music band which represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with their song " No Prejudice". History Pollapönk was founded in 2006 by singer Heiðar Örn Kristjánsson and lead guitarist Haraldur Freyr GÃslason, both of the rock band Botnleðja. The pair, who were studying to work as teachers, wanted to create music which could be enjoyed by both children and their broader families. Their debut album, the self-titled ''Pollapönk'', was created as the duo's graduation project from the Iceland University of Education. The following year, Haraldur's brother Arnar Þór GÃslason and Guðni Finnsson joined the band, playing drums and bass guitar, respectively. The quartet released a second album, entitled ''Meira Pollapönk'' ("More Pollapönk") in 2010. This was followed in 2011 by ''Aðeins Meira Pollapönk'' ("A Little More Pollapönk"). Iceland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2014
Iceland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "No Prejudice" written by Heiðar Örn Kristjánsson, Haraldur F. GÃslason and John Grant. The song was performed by the band Pollapönk. The Icelandic entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark was selected through the national final ''Söngvakeppnin 2014'', organised by the Icelandic broadcaster RÃkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of two semi-finals and a final, held on 1, 8 and 15 February 2014, respectively. Five songs competed in each semi-final with the top two as selected by a public televote alongside two jury wildcards advancing to the final. The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 was the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song "Only Teardrops" by Emmelie de Forest. John Grant (musician)
John William Grant (born July 25, 1968) is an American singer, musician, and songwriter who holds both American and Icelandic citizenship. He came to prominence as the co-founder, lead singer, pianist, and primary songwriter for the alternative rock band the Czars. After releasing six studio albums from 1994 to 2006, the band split up and Grant took a break from music before starting a solo career in 2010. Grant's debut solo album '' Queen of Denmark'' (2010) was named the best album of the year by '' Mojo'', and his second album ''Pale Green Ghosts'' (2013) was named the best album of the year by Rough Trade. Óttarr Olaf Proppé (born 7 November 1968) is a former Icelandic politician. He is a musician, actor, former ReykjavÃk City Councilor ( Best Party 2010-2014) and former Member of Parliament ( Bright Future 2013-2017). Óttarr was elected chairman of the party in 2015. He was a member of the rock band HAM in the years 1988–1994, as well as being the lead singer of the rock-cabaret band Dr. Spock.
