Police Football Club, also referred to as Guyana Police Force F.C., is a Guyanese football club in Georgetown. The club competes in the GFF Elite League, the top league of football in Guyana. They are the representative team of the Guyana Police Force. History Police FC was founded alongside a number of other sports clubs for members of the public services in the British Guiana colony. The Police club became a strong force in a number of sports but mostly in football. Though their cricket team did produce players for the West Indies cricket team. They also play 8-player football where they have won Guyana national titles. In 2016, Police FC won the Guyana Mayors Cup after beating Western Tigers. Police FC were promoted into the Elite League in 2019 after winning a playoff against Soesdyke Falcons. Guyana Mayors Cup
The Guyana Mayors Cup is a major knockout regional football tournament in Guyana. It was created in 1999. It is an annual inter-ward/village Football Championship only open to invited teams. It takes place at the Georgetown Football Club ground, proposed alternate locations include Bourda, Mahaicony Community Centre, Victoria Community Centre and the Den Amstel Community Centre grounds. It is coordinated by former national football coach Lennox Arthur. It was originally between teams in Georgetown, but was expanded to invite teams throughout the country. Soesdyke is a village in the Demerara-Mahaica Region (Region 4), Guyana, located between the Demerara River and the East Bank Public Road. Soesdyke is located just after the village called Den Heuvel (Coverden) if you are coming from Georgetown, which is the capital of Guyana. On the other end of Soesdyke is the village Timehri about 3 miles northeast of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
