Polecat Creek (band)
Polecat Creek is a folk band based in North Carolina. It was formed in the mid-1990s by Kari Sickenberger and Laurelyn Dossett, after they met at a book club in Greensboro, NC. They have released three CDs: ''Salt Sea Bound'' (2002), ''Leaving Eden'' (2004), and ''Ordinary Seasons'' (2007). Polecat Creek won the neo-traditional contest at the 2006 Appalachian String Band Festival. Dossett won the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest in 2004 in the gospel category. Greensboro
Greensboro (; formerly Greensborough) is a city in and the county seat of Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. Garrison Keillor
Gary Edward "Garrison" Keillor (; born August 7, 1942) is an American author, singer, humorist, voice actor, and radio personality. He created the Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) show '' A Prairie Home Companion'' (called ''Garrison Keillor's Radio Show'' in some international syndication), which he hosted from 1974 to 2016. Keillor created the fictional Minnesota town Lake Wobegon, the setting of many of his books, including '' Lake Wobegon Days ''and '' Leaving Home: A Collection of Lake Wobegon Stories''. Other creations include Guy Noir, a detective voiced by Keillor who appeared in ''A Prairie Home Companion'' comic skits. City Stages
City Stages was a three-day arts and music festival in downtown Birmingham, Alabama that took place in and around Linn Park from 1989 to 2009. After losses in 2009 amounted to nearly half a million dollars, the organization running City Stages announced on June 25, 2009 that the event would not return the next year. City Stages' organizers announced in November 2007 that they hired AC Entertainment, one of the co-producers for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, to help produce the Birmingham festival and advise them for the next three years. The final City Stages was held on June 13–15, 2009, on Father's Day Weekend. Ticket sales were hampered by inclement weather, a struggling economy, and a perceived low-quality artist lineup. After the event, organizers announced that the total debt had surpassed $1 million, and that no further City Stages events would be produced. FloydFest
FloydFest is a Music and arts festival held annually near Floyd, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains History The event began in 2002, and spans five days each year with on-site camping and multiple stages featuring rock, bluegrass, reggae, folk, Yiddish, Cajun, or Zydeco, African, Appalachian, and world music performers. The event was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the 19th edition was deferred to 2021. After the 2022 festival, organizers moved the festival to a site in Check, VA. However, due to environmental concerns about the site, it could not be used for the 2023 festival, which had to be canceled. In addition to music, the festival features local arts and crafts, dance workshops, morning yoga lessons, story telling, poetry readings, and a "Children's Universe" tent. Riley Baugus
Riley Baugus is an American old-time guitarist, banjo player, fiddler, singer and instrument builder from North Carolina. Early life Baugus grew up in the Regular Baptist tradition, which gave him a solid foundation in unaccompanied singing. He began playing the fiddle at age 10 and grew up with the fiddler Kirk Sutphin. As a youth, he also had the opportunity to study with old-time musicians from Surry County, North Carolina and Grayson County, Virginia, including Tommy Jarrell, Robert Sykes, Dix Freeman, Verlin Clifton, and Paul Sutphin. He is influenced particularly by the Round Peak style of Surry County, North Carolina. Career Baugus worked as a welder and blacksmith for 18 years before becoming a professional musician.
