Polcenigo (locally ''Al Borc''; fur, Polcenic) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Pordenone in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about northwest of Trieste, north of Venice and about northwest of Pordenone. Located on the slopes of the Western Carnic Prealps, in a quiet region surrounded by a charming landscape, it is a renowned water springs area characterized by numerous small streams, torrents, lake-like springs all flowing into river Livenza, whose waters springs in the place called Santissima. The Livenza ( la, Liquentia, fur, Livence, vec, Łivensa) is a river in the Italian provinces of Pordenone, Treviso and Venice. Its source is near Polcenigo and Caneva in Pordenone. Prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps are a series of prehistoric pile dwelling (or stilt house) settlements in and around the Alps built from about 5000 to 500 BC on the edges of lakes, rivers or wetlands. In 2011, 111 sites located variously in Switzerland (56), Italy (19), Germany (18), France (11), Austria (5) and Slovenia (2) were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Pordenone
Pordenone (; Venetian and fur, Pordenon) is the main ''comune'' of Pordenone province of northeast Italy in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The name comes from Latin ''Portus Naonis'', meaning 'port on the Noncello (Latin ''Naon'') River'. History Pordenone was created at the beginning of the High Middle Ages as a river port on the Noncello, with the name ''Portus Naonis.'' In the area, however, there were already villas and agricultural settlements from the Roman age, especially in the area of the town of Torre. The province of Pordenone ( it, provincia di Pordenone; ; vec, provincia de Pordenon) was a province in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy. Its capital was the city of Pordenone. The province was subdivided from the province of Udine in 1968. It had a total population of 312,794 inhabitants. The province was abolished on 30 September 2017. Terramare
Terramare, terramara, or terremare is a technology complex mainly of the central Po valley, in Emilia, Northern Italy, dating to the Middle and Late Bronze Age c. 1700–1150 BC. It takes its name from the "black earth" residue of settlement mounds. ''Terramare'' is from ''terra marna'', "marl-earth", where marl is a lacustrine deposit. It may be any color but in agricultural lands it is most typically black, giving rise to the "black earth" identification of it. The population of the terramare sites is called the terramaricoli. The sites were excavated exhaustively in 1860–1910. These sites prior to the second half of the 19th century were commonly believed to have been used for Gallic and Roman sepulchral rites.
