Pointe-au-Père, Quebec
Pointe-au-Père () is a district (''secteur'') of the city of Rimouski, Quebec, which is located in the central part of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region in eastern Quebec at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. Its population was 4,240 in 2002, the year it merged with Rimouski. It is named after Father Henri Nouvel, who celebrated the first mass there in 1663. Pointe-au-Père lighthouse along with the Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père museum are major regional tourist attractions. Murderer Dr Crippen was arrested when the steam ship , on which he was trying to escape with his mistress, who was disguised as his son, reached Pointe-au-Père. Pointe-au-Père National Wildlife Area
The Pointe-au-Père National Wildlife Area is one of eight National Wildlife Areas of Canada located in Quebec. This small 23-hectare area protects a Spartina, spartina marsh located in the Pointe-au-Père, Quebec, Pointe-au-Père sector of the city of Rimouski. In addition to the marsh, it includes an Zostera marina, eelgrass meadow. Despite its small size, it is frequented by over 120 species of birds, including Snow goose, snow geese, Barrow's goldeneye, least sandpiper and greater yellowlegs. It was created in 1986 following pressure from a group of residents to protect the marsh. It is administered by the Canadian Wildlife Service. Geography The National Wildlife Area, NWA covers an area of 23.7 ha, including 1.46 ha in the marine environment. Rimouski ( ; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. Rimouski is located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, at the mouth of the Rimouski River. It has a population of 48,935 (as of 2021). Hawley Harvey Crippen (11 September 1862 – 23 November 1910), colloquially known as Dr. Crippen, was an American homeopath, ear and eye specialist and medicine dispenser who was hanged in Pentonville Prison, London, for the murder of his second wife, Cora Henrietta Crippen. He was the first criminal to be captured with the aid of wireless telegraphy. Early life and career Hawley Crippen was born in Coldwater, Michigan, the only surviving child to Andresse Skinner and Myron Augustus Crippen, a merchant.
